What do I do if I'm talking with someone and haven't moved on from my last relationship yet?
@passionateJet9854,
be open and honest about it to the other person. Take time to process whatever you need to process first.
You and someone new both deserve a partner that is ready. Any past should not stand in the way.

I agree with @dukeofdearham . be honest and upfront and work on you.
When you start to talk with someone most people still have things in their life and no one I have ever met had a perfectly clean slate when meeting and chatting with someone.

Basically, starting a new relationship before the previous one ends comes between infidelity and being a little unfair. But let's be realistic: only some relationships (majority or a half?) start with a clean sheet of paper. Lots of them are flowers blooming on previous relationship's tombstone. Though there are some risks...
First of all, you may unconsciously start to measure the new person with the past person qualities. For example, you past partner was well-organized, polite, but dull. You meet someone new, who is more spontaneous and open, but you may see them as coarse.
Also, you can be caught in a "guilt trap". At the beginning of a new connection you are excited. You want to start anew asap and burn the bridges connecting you with the past. But one day you start to see shortcomings of your new relationship. Sometimes as much so you would be happy to turn back the time. And you start to feel guilty for how you failed the person who loved you and trusted you.
We all have the right to change our minds, give up trying and meet someone new. But I believe it has to be done cautiously, because with every step I might be stepping on somebody's broken dreams.
