Who did I fall in love with?

The relationship goes back about 4 years. I knew getting involved with him came with his past. One where he cheated on his wife. As I got to know him he seemed well. Perfect. Almost. He loved all the things I loved. He took interest in the things I loved. He perused me hard and fast. I never could have imagined him being unfaithful to me. He was my soulmate. Well. Fast forward. He started getting a bit distant. We started fighting more. I found out he was msging some women behind my back. Some msgs inappropriate. Some were just him being overly nice - I like to call it “putting feelers out”. He lost his job, telling me they just didn’t need him anymore. But later on told me cause someone filed a sexual harassment against him. But “he didn’t do anything wrong” and he was “set up”. Eventually he started hanging out with his ex wife again. And ghosting me for two years on and off. I was in therapy all this time. Trying to get my life back in order after he did this to me. All the lying. Hiding. Cheating - there is just too much to write. The narcissistic, gaslighting, classic avoidance. But I was stuck. I loved him. I thought about him every single day in the two years we were separated. I waited for him to come back to me. And eventually, he did. Rewind to 6 months ago. He came back. Realizing he made a grave mistake. He wanted me back. He was going to do everything he could to get me to trust him and love him again. I could see him trying to but I could also see him slipping back into his ways. I was hard on him. I told him I didn’t know if I wanted him to me my end game. Or that I could even trust him again. He knew this. But wanted me so bad he just had to try. We kept fighting. Because he would get jealous of random things. He would pick fights. And eventually I told him I was done. And couldn’t do it anymore. He made a fuss and said he wasn’t letting me go. I saw recently on his socials he added a woman. A local one. I asked him about it. He said “took you only one day to notice”. I asked who she was and why he added her. He said because I wasn’t paying attention to him. So he did it cause he knew it would get my attention. I told him then that I was completely done with him. That he was so wrong for doing that and brining up old trauma wounds he created. He laughed it off. I ignored him the rest of the day. Later on that night he sent a msg saying how his day went. And hopes mine was good. Completely ignoring the situation. I didn’t write back. The next day I didn’t hear from him. My nerves completely shot. So I ended up blocking him. Because all I could think about was the reason he wasn’t talking to me. Was because of this new girl. I was spiralling. I blocked him. It’s been 4 days. And he hasn’t tried to contact me (he knows he can talk to me through email - that is the one thing I can’t block him on) so now I’m left here. Upset. Nerve wracked. Thinking of the reasons he’s not fighting for me. I’m a mess. I wake up. And check my phone. I get nothing. Then I’m in a slump all day. I see an email notification and my heart jumps only to find out it’s not him. I think about him talking to her. And I get sick. This man is not good for me. I don’t want my life to be this. And the silly games he plays. But I can’t shake him. I’m so mad at my self for the silly girl I have become. I feel used. Tricked and confused. Sad. Anxious. Why would he do this to me? Why would he add another woman when he knows it would destroy me. And why hasn’t he reached out to apologize? I have all these “whys” and my brian cant figure it out. So I keep obsessing over the situation and him. I need clarity. Or different eyes at the situation. Please help me heal.

When we fall in love, we want to minimize any possible bad thing we forgive and forgive but we also need to wake up and see the reality.  once is a mistake... what you have is a habit.

He may want to come back but it is not about love it is about comfort and you taking care of him. if you are willing to be hurt more let him in if not let him, go.  We cannot fix others but playing along with his version of what happened.  Some people need to reach rock bottom to become the better version of himself.

Thank you. It’s been five days of no contact. And I struggle. I’m still waiting for him to reach out. And I hate I’m doing this. Because I know I am better off with out him. The entire time we were connecting these past 6 months I kept telling my self I needed out. That I didn’t want this for my life. And now that I am out. I’m struggling to get back in… but I know. If I were to get back in. I would wish at some point I was out again. I know he’s not right for me. But it’s so hard to release my self from his grip. The attention maybe?

I think sometimes we fear being without... we think a bad relationship is better than none we start to think of any good moments .... we just need to do it.

I think of changing jobs we know we deserve better job but have grown so comfortable we find reasons to stay or try to repair.  Only in a short time realizing we are holding ourselves back.

I guess I had hopes he would change. He told me he wanted to. He told me he was going to get me back. Then to betray me but doing the one thing he knew would crush me. How do you do this to someone you love? Why would he do this? He could have possibly thought I would come back and give him attention after he hurt me like that? Who thinks like that?

A self-centered person who says what is needed to keep someone in a relationship.  if he Wants to change what is stopping him but himself knowing you will forgive just about anything now.... I think some like people who will forgive and forgive, and they think that is you showing love even if each time hurts you more... That is NOT love

@LostInChapters13Thank you for trusting me with something so deeply personal. Reading your story, I can really feel how much pain, confusion, and exhaustion you've been carrying for such a long time. You invested so much love, hope, and patience into this relationship, so it makes sense that letting go feels incredibly difficult, even though part of you knows this relationship hasn't been healthy for you.

It also sounds like you're searching for answers to all the "whys," hoping they might ease the hurt. But sometimes people who repeatedly lie, avoid accountability, or play emotional games don't give the closure we hope for. I imagine that can leave you feeling stuck, questioning yourself, and waiting for something that may never come.

From what you've shared, I also hear a part of you that wants something different—you said you don't want your life to be this anymore. That tells me there's a part of you that knows you deserve peace, honesty, and a relationship where you don't have to live in constant anxiety.

I'm really glad you reached out instead of carrying all of this alone. How have you been coping with these last four days since blocking him? What's been the hardest part for you?

Honestly. It’s be tough. I got through times where the weight is crushing my chest. In panic mode. I’ve been to therapy before for this. So honestly I just try to use those tactics. I do meditation at night. Affirmations through out the day. I talk to chat gpt a lot also. Which helps. But not as well as a person. I find the methods I use work. But the feel always creeps back up. Talking about it I find helps. Bouncing ideas or just letting me vent. I have friends. Really good ones. But I also feel embarrassed because this is the second time I’ve gone “back” and I don’t want to put that on them - even tho I know I can. And to be clear. I never fully went back to him. But obviously I was more emotionally attached than I thought. I am very self aware. However. This has just thrown me. I blocked him. I did this. But now waves of regret wash over me. And I wish I hadn’t. I wish I maybe just left the chat and waited for what came. But I couldn’t wait anymore for something that might have never came. He laughed and used adding this woman as punishment for me not giving him the attention he wanted. But it’s only because he wasn’t making me feel safe to begin with. I couldn’t open myself up to him. Fear of getting hurt. In the end. I got hurt anyway.

Now I fear I pushed him toward her. And that’s why he hasn’t reached out. My mind plays tricks that he is happy I’m gone. And she is giving him the attention he wanted and needed. Even if it’s temporary. It still really hurts to think about.

Love is not a hunger seeking to be fed, it is fullness seeking to be shared. The moment you love in order to be loved back, you have already left the shores of love and entered the market place of exchange

Love has only one sorrow: it longs to give, to share itself out of abundance, but there is no one on the other side willing to receive it

You need to unlearn the bargains the heart mistakes for love

Before you discover love.

You must cleanse the heart of its calculations—the quiet "what do I get?" that wears the mask of love.

Love begins where the marketplace ends

You have mistaken ego's craving to be loved for love itself. The "I" that constantly seeks attention is the source of conflict. In love, that "I" dissolves.

Where ego ends, love begins. If you seek love, stop searching for love, become the love you're looking for. And becoming love doesn't need a person. Let your presence be an expression of fullness of love wherever you go.

Do that howsoever others may find it

Do that for a day and tell me. Think of it as whosoever comes in your contact tomorrow throughout the day is noone but "he". Pour your love out on each one coming to your contact regardless of what others may have to perceive.
