difficult break up
Everything happened so suddenly, and I still can’t fully process it. Yesterday, we were hugging and cuddling, and today, he left.
I came home late at night, exhausted, and accidentally locked both locks before going to sleep. I didn’t do it on purpose, I just wasn’t thinking. But in the morning, I woke up to a message from him saying he was breaking up with me because I locked the door. He thought I did it intentionally, but I didn’t. The thing is that you can open the door from outside only if you lock it once from the inside. Yes, in the past, I locked it once when I was upset, but I opened it when he knocked. This time, I simply fell asleep. He could have called or tried to reach me another way. But instead, he just decided that this was the end.
I tried explaining, I called him, I convinced him to come home. But when he did, he was completely set on breaking up. He packed his things and told me that it was over. He didn’t want to look me in the eyes. Was fckin harsh and even asked me to return the earrings his mother gave me.
I told him, how could I forgive him when he hurt me in the past, but he can't. he said he does not care and that I hurt the wrong person. He said that he does not forgive. it was so fckin painful. all that breakup. he was just screaming at me saying that we are done.
how he could throw everything away over something like this. Yes, we’ve had conflicts before, but things had been getting better. I still had hope. I still loved him. now I’m left feeling devastated, exhausted, and completely lost. He was my closest person, the one I trusted and loved, and now he’s just gone.
Maybe I saw in him a person he never really was.
I know it's stupid, but I still somehow hope he is gonna come back.
He was my closest person and left. its fckin painful

Hello and welcome to 7 Cups!
Do you think that one night, when you came back home late tired and forgot to leave one of the locks open, might have been the sole reason for the breakup? I am afraid the answer is: no. But when some painful issues are cumulating over the time, it sometimes takes just a tiny little spark to make things explode.
Is it possible this was just such a kind of a situation?
Maybe you two just need some time to cool down and things go back to normality. Or maybe not... But maybe it is a good time to reflect on your relationship and check what could have gone wrong?...

It sounds like he may have had other things adding up and the lock thing was just the thing that set him off. It is sometimes the smallest of things that make a person become angry.
The bigger question is why he cannot have a civilized talk about whatever has built up and set him off. I have seen many times couples who talk but do not communicate... they keep small things to themselves until one too many makes them lose it. is he subject to drama like packing things up and such in past? if so people really need to learn how to disagree and leave drama out of it.
