about a month ago, i started dating my friend, whom i liked for about 1.5 years. only now i'm starting to realize that we are completely different people, we have very different views on life, love languages etc. and i don't know how to maintain long-term relationship with such a different person. i realized we should've stayed friends. i decided i should break up with him, but also don't want to hurt him and lose him completely. what do i do?

@whatthehell257853 it's very mature of you to develop this awareness and decide that it's better to give your relationship a different dimension: being in a romantic relationship with someone that you can't really connect with because of your differences will only drain you both.
It may not be easy to break the news to him, but it's still quite early in your relationship and the more it goes on the harder it will be. Yes, it will hurt at first, but at least he'll know that the breakup is not because he did something wrong or he is not "good enough", but simply because of incompatibility. Make sure to be very honest and have a open hearted conversation with him about this, and time will do the healing.

@whatthehell257853 I don't want to make your situation worse, but it's also important to be honest. If he doesn't see you as just a friend, you won't save him. It will eat away at you and eventually your relationship will deteriorate and you'll break up anyway. Or you'll date until you die mentally. So tell him how it is, and if you're important to him, he'll support you and understand the situation. If not, then why do you need a narcissistic egoist?
