You smile, but someone rejects it. You are misunderstood, and that person moves farther away from you. You don’t want this, do you? I never want this.

I often feel the need to explain why I’m doing certain things or acting in a particular way. I dislike the idea of people feeling negatively about me, and I despise hurting their feelings. My belief is: don’t be friends with everyone, but be enemies with none. How? With a smile.

Whenever I encounter someone and our eyes meet, I smile. A smile in return feels so sweet. The person who does not like you may actually wish they could be more like you. For some reason, they have shortcomings they cannot overcome in life, and they might try to bring you down by saying negative things. This can make you feel uncomfortable.

What should you do? How can you respond? Through praise. Start showing appreciation for that person and acknowledging their good qualities. Everyone has something positive about themselves; highlight those attributes. Gradually, they will start to warm up to you, and the barriers will begin to melt away.

Avoid road rage. I often found myself behaving like an aggressive driver, rolling down my windows and shouting at others to let them know they were at fault. What did it achieve? Did the other driver change their behaviour? No, all it resulted in was a bit of a traffic jam, ugly remarks, and glares from the other person. We lost our peace, and the overall atmosphere shifted negatively. Instead, I’ve learned to look into their eyes and simply nod with a silent smile..
