Building a Stronger Relationship to Self (Domain 01 - Being)
Many of us move through life fulfilling responsibilities and meeting the expectations of others, often without pausing to reflect on our relationship with ourselves. The “Being” domain highlights how vital it is to cultivate self-awareness, emotional regulation, and values-based living. Developing a strong internal relationship means identifying your core values, recognizing your character strengths, and building self-esteem and self-acceptance.
When we begin to truly understand ourselves—what motivates us, what gives us purpose, and how we manage stress—we can make more authentic decisions and respond to challenges with resilience. Emotional regulation and distress tolerance aren’t about avoiding pain, but rather about learning how to sit with discomfort and make choices aligned with our best selves, even when things are hard.
This kind of inner work lays the foundation for healthier relationships, purposeful action, and long-term well-being.
Discussion Prompts:
-
What personal values or character strengths guide your decisions when life becomes challenging?
-
How do you currently nurture your relationship with yourself, and what could you do more of to grow in this area?
