Confessions in the workplace

Hi, first post here and I’m a little nervous about it.

I have a crush on this guy I’ve known about 3 years now at work and I wanna clear the air so to speak. Just tell him I like him. I’ve been cautious about relationships since my ex, (whole can of worms there but tldr I have ptsd from it) and if I wanted to try dating again I’d like him to be that guy. my work doesn’t allow relationships during hours, and a incident occurred first year where my boss asked me if I had a crush on him. I said no and covered my own *** so to speak, but I really did and I still do. So I don’t know if he’s aware that I like him. I just wanna tell him so I can get it off my chest, and if he doesn’t like me back I wanna restart, just a clean slate. I’m scared mostly because this is pushing my out of my comfort zone and I don’t wanna risk the friendship/acquaintance we have. I have his number I believe so I could just text him and not have to face him in person but it’s all just so confusing. I don’t even know if he has a girlfriend or if he’s gay..

advice about how to confront this and tips on confessing would be great. I may not respond for a couple hours since I wrote this on my break. This felt really good to get off my chest.

Confessing can have disadvantages some say.

  • Telling him your feelings right away
    can remove the mystery
    and create pressure on him.

I would have normal conversations with him like- oh this dress is cute what do you think? Maybe you can buy it for your gf (basically try to know if he’s dating anyone). If he said he’s not dating anyone then you can ask why, is he gay, or is he has any criteria he’s looking for, or maybe he isn’t ready/doesn’t have time/has personal problem. I mean, you have to know his back story before confessing.

Maybe he said no he doesn’t have a gf bcz he had a crush on someone, you can ask who. If he said he cant move on from his ex, you can ask about his ex and learn about his previous relationship which could tell you a lot about him.

The key is to be casual about it. Most guys like taking things slow. I know you just want to take things off your chest thats all but by doing it slowly you won’t put pressure on him or make him uncomfortable by your confession. Have to consider about his feelings too on how he would take the confession.
