EMOTIONAL DEPENDENCE - WHAT LEADS TO LACK OF EMOTIONAL AUTONOMY?

It is human nature to be dependent at certain times in our lives. When we are small, for example, we depend on the care of other people. It's natural. However, the healthy thing is that the development of life provides us with maturity and autonomy so that we can be independent and free.
However, this does not always happen in the territory of emotions. For some people, especially those who are going through, or have gone through, major traumas, strong episodes of emotional stress, sudden changes, losses or separations, internally there may be psychological suffering, which undermines emotional autonomy and can generate emotional dependence.
These situations are marked as a kind of abandonment and vulnerability, which persists over time. This feeling is revived in the present, in the new relationships.

It is very common for people who go through this condition of dependence, because they feel fragile, to become a little judicious about their emotional ties. Some end up accepting to remain in relationships without quality, in exchange for "crumbs" of affection.
It is common for these people - and also those around them - to realize the constant need for someone's presence. This condition can lead the person to live distressed and frustrated, with the uncomfortable feeling that there is always an imminent loss, an abandonment about to happen.
Those who suffer from emotional dependence often also make substitutions, usually unconsciously, in order to fill the feeling of constant "emptiness". In these cases, the substitution can be for food, drugs or even for the constant search for approval or submissive behaviors.

Emotional dependency not only compromises healthy relationships, it also causes serious self-esteem problems. Psychotherapy can help in emotional maturation and in improving self-confidence, autonomy and self-control, so that you can follow life in an emotionally healthier and fuller way, being an active voice within your relationships, without depending on them. place, allow yourself to love yourself in an integral way! Ask the question, what have you been doing just for yourself, and for no one else?

@KACOSMIC great post! I agree, emotional dependency needed to create bond, yet too much may create problems in relationships and hurting self-esteem. Love the post 💜
