How to get over infatuation?

i think i’ve had this problem for several years. i become attracted to someone, see their interactions with others and certain qualities i really like, but never really speak to them because there’s no opportunity. you see, in my current situation i like someone in my university - we used to have seminars together, but would sit on opposite sides of the room. the most i’ve spoken to him is asking his name and course.

it’s bad because i’ve stalked his social media, and the people he follows, and stuff like that, and i just really want to know more about him but how? it’s now the holidays so there’s no way for me to talk to him in person until the second term starts.

i go through this continuous cycle: i see him, and then all i can do is think about him. i cant think about my friends or my studies or my hobbies, only him. then after a few days of not seeing him i’m okay again, and all of a sudden i’m free and happy and improving myself by learning new things and going out with friends. then i see him again and the cycle continues.

any moment of eye contact i will get very happy over. and then i’ll get sad when nothing happens between me and him. all i want is to get to know him… if i knew him then maybe i’d be able to actually fall in love with him for him, rather than the idea of him, or perhaps id be able to move on if i realised he wasn’t for me.

all my past crushes and relationships have been based on this infatuation. please, i’m not sure what to do. thank you for listening :)

@coconut2719 Have you considered walking up to him and saying something like, hi I would like to get to know you want to go grab lunch and talk or go out for a drink?

@coconut2719

there is nothing to do unless you talk to him .... you are infatuated with teh thought of him or who you think he is ...reality may be different ..... talk to him get to know him and then decide dhow you feel if you have a history of infatuations that sets you up to only see the things you like and ignore what you might not like.
