Is my marriage over?

Recently my husband told me he is unable to get over the fact that I cheated on him 15 years ago and had a child. Back then I cheated and told him about it and we got divorced. I continued my relationship and had a child. My husband moved on and ended up getting married as well. A year later when my son was 1 I was single and my husband was recently divorced and we reconnected and decided to get together again. He assumed the father role for my son and treated him like his own son. We got married again and have built a lovely life and had another child. Now 14 years later he tells me he can't get over what I did and that he may never get over it. He says he needs time to think about it and that we should separate. After a few hours of me giving him space he comes back and says he will go to therapy to deal with it and to not worry because he is not leaving. But now I can't help but wonder if all this was a mistake and if shouldn't of gotten back together. As much as we live eachother if he can't get over it I don't know if I can stay knowing that he can't move on and I don't want this to affect our children and especially my son who sees him as his father.

I don't think he should just go to any therapy. I think you guys should both go to a couple therapy!!

Hi, olivesummer2209 relationships are hard and it sound like u need someone to talk to. I don’t have answers but I am a good listener. I have been married for 23 yrs and marriage is hard but beautiful. I can definitely say that this sound like a therapist can definitely give u some good advice. What I can read is you must have beautiful family together and if you both got back together, you both love each other very much. And that’s beautiful.

@oliveSummer2209,

do either of you two want the marriage to be over? If not, then I can't imagine why your marriage should be over. When things get emotional, words might come out the wrong way, be misinterpreted. And was is actually said behind the words might not be noticed at all. Your husband is gonna seek help you said. I applaud him for that step, not everybody is able to take that step. To me it seems that he is aware that it is not your issue, but his. He takes responsibility and is willing to work on his issue. He must love you very much.

Communicate about how his therapy will be going. So you can understand what makes it hard for him, and he can understand what makes it hard for you.
