My boyfriend and my dad
Hi!
My boyfriend and I had a talk before regarding my dad liking him. He's worried and anxious whether my dad likes him or not. But my dad has a cold personality and really intimidating. But I have reassured him that my dad's in favor of him.
We are both freshmen in college. We only see each other once a week. My boyfriend always picks me up and takes me home. But I still have curfew when I go over at his place. There have been times that we forget about the time and he takes me home later than the said curfew. We apologize for it and never do it again. Although my boyfriend always reminds me that we should go home, but I insist sometimes to extend a little bit more.
And then last night, my dad was looking for me. Disappointed and upset (and was in a bad mood prior to this), waiting by our staircase. He said I didn't message him and I was late which I agree that it is my fault. (my curfew was 9:30 but i went home at 10 cuz my mom allowed me to)
The next day he told me that my curfew is now changed to 8 PM, whenever Im at my bf's place. He said he's losing his trust in me. And I told my boyfriend this and obviously he was upset as well. cause they have dinner at 8 pm and it would be impolite of me to go home when its right about dinner time.
He was so upset that he said he doesn't want to meet up with me anymore. (but we're not breaking up) Of course I cried a lot, because he's the only reason I look forward the end of the week. He reasons that he couldn't understand my dad, he argues that he makes sure I get home safely, we only get to meet once a week. And now he doesn't wanna come over at my place anymore, cause he doesn't feel like he belongs here.
What am I supposed to do? I do understand what my boyfriend is feeling. Are we being unreasonable or my dad is being too much?

I get the picture. As a young people, it sounds like you're both being quite responsible. And yes, your dad may sound a bit too much, but usually it comes from his love for you.
I think he's trying to give you freedom by still letting you go, but couldn't deny the fear. I'm a parent and when it's time for my kid to have a bf one day, I think the hardest part will be to overcome fear of the possibility of her gets brokenhearted.
It may help to validate each of their feelings and maybe they can try to see how the situation hurts you too. Hope it'll be sorted soon 🤍
