What I want vs what he wants

Mf bf is very easy to please. We can order Chinese and watch some tv and he’ll be great because that’s what he enjoys. Me on the other hand, I enjoy activities together but he doesn’t do much to make it happen. He says if I want more extravagant things then he should get them too. I agree with him because it’s fair but I feel like he only wants more because I am asking him to do more than he would want from me, not that I’m not willing to do it for him. It just seems like he doesn’t want to make me happy if it requires more input on his end. Should I settle for what he is doing? Should I just always do more for him? I understand reciprocating thing for each other but what he wants is based off of how much I want.
