Sex and Yeast infection
So I've been having protected sex, other than a little accident occurring a few weeks ago. I am also on a birth control called microgestin 1/20 and have been on birth control for 8 months. I recently got a yeast infection but was scared to take the antibiotic bc it interrupts birth control. I am supposed to start my period this week, or so my pills say so. I am on the 4th week of my pack and I'm not supposed to take a pill during this time. Should I take the antibiotic?

In general though, antibiotics aren't used to treat yeast infections as yeast are fungi, not bacteria. It is possible for a compound to have both antibiotic and antifungal properties though.
As for the antibiotic/birth control pill interaction, that is something that has been greatly generalized, there isn't good evidence for it for a majority of antibiotics although it is true for some specific ones. The general advice that is out there is to use a backup method of birth control, such as condoms, for the time frame when the birth control pill would be rendered less effective. It's not the best solution all the time though as there are other factors including reasons why the birth control pill is being taken. That's where talking to a medical professional about your specific situation is best.

@emotionjet1taylor I was on birth control for 10 years, had yeast infections and vaginitis several times w/in those 10 years b/c I was a stupid, premiscuous young adult, so I have also been on many antibiotics. If you are paranoid to take them w/your BC - Idk why - then ask your doctor. But, from someone who's taken prolly every antibiotic for a UTI, yeast infection, and vaginitis, plus my BC @ the same time .. it all clears up w/in a week.
