A horrible weekend
My boyfriend and I have been together for about 6 months now. He works night shift so we can't see each other during the weekdays at all which is why we always look forward to spending time during the weekend. He would always say no matter what, we have to see each other during the weekends. But last weekend was something different.
His invited us for a house party and I couldn't go because I was not well. The party was until 3am and I thought to myself that it's okay we still have Sunday to spend time with each other.
When it came to Sunday, he didn't tell me he had made plans to watch football with his friends. So I assumed he had kept Sunday free to spend time with me. Last minute I asked him to come over and have dinner. He said sure and then I asked if he had plans with his family or anything he said yes, he was supposed to have dinner with them. I felt bad because he hardly gets to spend time with them. So I told him to go ahead and have dinner with them.
Then he told me that he will be seeing his friends after dinner. I got really upset and hurt because he spent the entire Saturday night with his friends until 3am and now he wants to also spend Sunday with them? Like didn't he think about wanting to spend time with me? Did he even think about me? It was just so hurtful and I cried so much cause that's how hurt I was.
What happened to "no matter what we must see each other during the weekends".
Is it wrong for me to make this a big deal?

He invited you to the party on Saturday. If you had gone to the party with him, you would have been spending time together.
You got sick and didn't go to the party. Then you invited him to dinner last minute on Sunday - Even though he already had plans to eat dinner with his family he still agreed to have dinner with you instead, but you didnt want him to choose you over his family, so he had dinner with them. What I see is that he made several attempts to work his schedule around you, to spend time with you, and was taking the initiative to include you in his plans such as his party. It wasn't anyone's fault that you got sick, and he did seem to try to be accomodating by agreeing to dinner with you on such short notice even though he already planned to do something else. In the end, despite his efforts it didn't work out that you would end up spending time together that weekend - but it wasn't because he didn't try or make any effort. I think you should put these things into perspective, and maybe think if you hadn't been sick wouldn't things have turned out differently to begin with? Isn't it more reasonable to acknowledge he genuinely tried under the circumstances to spend time with you, just that it didn't work out that way in the end..? If he was constantly making excuses and choosing his friends over you all the time as a pattern it would be a different story.
@CatzInTheCradle Whatever you said is really true and I didn't look at in a reasonable way until my boyfriend and I talked about it. I know I have to put in more effort and take the initiative next time. It's just that I feel really bad right now for starting a fight with him over this. Even he asked why am I making a big deal about this. And I said I'm upset that he didn't keep some time for me and it felt like I didn't matter or I wasn't important. There were alot of times where I wanted to spend more time with him like just the both of us only. But he would go ahead and be with his friends. Like he would meet up with his friends on Saturday and Sunday. But with me it's only Saturday or Sunday. So perhaps that's why I was upset because I felt like I wanted to spend even more time with him cause I do miss him alot.
Nevertheless thank you for replying to my post. It means alot and I will take into account about what you said.

It is important to set aside some private time where you can be intimate with each other without the intrusion of other people into your relationship. If it always feels like the only time you ever spend together on a weekend is occupied with other people, then it might start to feel like your relationship is crowded by his friends, and you'll start wondering what is the point of the relationship even if it's always including other people... So sometimes you might like to suggest activities that is just you two - and use the words "JUST US" so that it is clear to him that you intend for it to be private and not to go and invite his friends. Communicate your needs, control the situation more, and leave less room for misunderstandings that way. If you leave things unplanned, and don't communicate with each other (such as he didn't tell you he planned to spend Sunday with his friends) then things will get messy occasionally and you'll have to adapt to the circumstances as they are.
In the end, communicating better and being clear about what you need from each other will help your relationship a lot here. try to think of this as a learning experience that will improve your relationship, rather than a "fight" that you feel resentful/unhappy about.
