Am i missing something?

Hi thanks for reading I'm going to be 100% honest and unfiltered. Id like to get women's opinion on this because I've never been this confused. This is probably going to be more of an ongoing thread because it's complex lol.

First about me i guess to give a little perspective. I've been through a ton in life , didn't really bond with anyone. I'm normally EXTREMELY good at reading people which has been a blessing and a curse. I got married at 26 to someone because it made sense. Met someone in 2009 that changed my life and the way i view relationships and learned what true unconditional love feels like. Iy didn't work for reasons to numerous to list. I've dated a lot in life and so far there's only been one time I've seen true love but last year i dated someone that im pretty sure i felt the early stages of really falling for her.

When I'm with someone its usually more like friends and as long as it works it works. I'm a hopeless romantic and want it to grow into more but we feel what we feel i guess. I'm seeing someone now and she's really great. We're very honest with each other, have fun together, laugh constantly and she's really really cute ( arguably out of my league in the looks department but i digress. ) there's nothing *wrong* but i just don't connect with her on the level i know is possible. Which is putting a spotlight on a former relationship.

Here's what I'm wrestling with. You'll need to read the whole thing because its complex. We'll call her Maggie and I'll explain why. We live in the same neighborhood and for about a year we would wave as neighbors nothing beyond that. At some point we exchanged numbers for social correspondence but nothing flirty. She's extremely attractive and would fit the mold of many men i suppose. 5'7" blonde, fit, athletic, pretty, but honestly that's never been my type. I find her very attractive because of the type of person she is not her looks. Her personality grew on me and we ended up hanging out. We began dating ( kind of) but i sensed hesitancy from her like it of nowhere she'd pull back. Some days it was an amazing relationship and other days i felt like an inconvenience ( you know that feeling that you get when someone isn't interested but feels to bad to tell you so they just blow you off ? ) yeah that feeling sucks but we've got to be honest with ourselves when we see it. So I've considered that many times believe me! Anyway moving on.... we dated 4 months and she ended it over something trivial. During that 4 months she did and said things that clearly showed she felt the same things i was feeling. We'd be laying in bed in the morning. She'd randomly smile at me and say" i feel like we've crossed paths in a past life. There's something i can't explain that i feel around you" something I've never felt before" There's things you can't fake if you don't really feel things.

Here's the dilemma and where i need an unbiased *girl brain*

I call her Maggie as she pretty much represents the main character of the runaway bride.

She's legitimately diagnosed bipolar and ADHD but refuses meds for personal reasons. I'm not looking to change that but thought i should mention. She's a really cool person and i love spending time with her and her daughter which is whole other part of the story. Maggie's history is that when her feelings get involved she runs. I can point to 2 major life decisions that would leave most scratching their head. One being giving up a very good job on wallst in a knee jerk decision. Imagine going to school for a degree and having a career for 10 years then one day suddenly walk away from it with no notice or having ever said a word to anyone. I could give several traits that are normally absolute deal breakers for me but i like her anyway. There's a dozen reasons i shouldn't like her but i do and can't stop thinking about her especially because she ended it for all the wrong reasons. We're genuinely good for each other and as much as she drives me batsh** sometimes i still feel a way about her that i can't ignore. I've been through things in life that many couldn't imagine so i don't judge people or expect things of people.

We stopped talking last August at her choice and i pretty much cut off all communications. She has acted like we'd just go to friends like we were in a fwb situation the whole time. She did say initially that she would cut and run if i started having feelings etc. But then over the time we dated she showed me things, did things, and said things you just don't do unless you are starting to really have feelings.

Anyway feel free to ask questions because it's just one anonymous person asking other anonymous people for their genuine unbiased opinion. I'm just not sure what to think. I think part of her pulling away was because she started having feelings and was scared i didn't feel the same. I'm thinking about writing her a letter explaining how i truly feel. At this point i feel like it'll either slam the door closed for good or make her think about it all. We don't talk now so i don't feel a ton of risk i guess.

Anyway , again TIA !

I'm not sure if I completely understand what's happened in your relationship with Maggie but I think writing her a letter is an excellent idea. Just be prepared for any outcome. Sounds like she's scared to get close, she's probably been hurt in the past badly. The non medicated bi polar condition could be a part of the problem too.

Just my thoughts I'm no expert but I've been through some really heavy stuff.

I connected with someone who was not good for me but we had the most intense chemistry I've ever experienced and I felt like I knew him from a past life. My current relationship is steady Eddy but not hot, exciting chemistry. I do miss that but I guess this is right for long term.

I hope something in my post helps you and I wish you the best outcome for your relationship.

Appreciate the response I'm thinking through all options.

I get what you mean by steady eddy and I've had very intense physical connections that was more attributed to attraction and I've had one ( arguably 2) that we're based on everything else. There's no replacement for being with someone you don't want to do anything without but there's always others that look interesting when its for the wrong reasons. Only you can decide which one it is. I envy people that have the person they can't live without.

And as far as why we stopped talking it was genuinely stupid. I'm comfortable financially and not one to brag but things came up that she knew very well my approximate financial situation. Discussing cart payments i said i haven't had one in years..... anyway we had an amazing day on my boat. Next day she texts me asking if she left her sunglasses. I made a mistake and dropped them off at a friend's thinking they belong to his wife. Maggie accused me of giving the sunglasses away to buy his friendship. I'm still confused by the whole thing and actuality responded " lol" when she first text me that. I thought she had to be joking.

@ScottUSA

I'm glad you were able to have fun with Maggie on your boat, but her reaction to the " sunglasses" thing idk what to say. Seems like a bit of overreaction . But she may be just really wary and suspicious because of a previous bad experience. Some people test you in relationships to see what your game is...not that you have one but she might think you do . She sounds important to you. Do try writing a letter to her. Be completely honest about how you feel. That may clear her suspicions if that's the issue for her.

Best always ABB

Yeah the whole thing was bizarre. I've never been more confused in my life. I've dated a lot of people over the years from one and of the spectrum to the other and I've never seen anything like it so maybe it was the bipolar/ adhd. We haven't so much as sent a text in months but i still think about her just about every day. I don't fall for people easily and i started to fall for her. She would regularly say i couldn't read people almost implying that i couldn't read her and she was falling for me but i wasn't seeing it.

I'm normally very alpha and confident but i was a hot mess around her and felt like i never know where i stood. I'm still wrestling with what to say if i say anything at all.

I just don't want to be weird but idk at this point its not like I'm risking anything.

@ScottUSA

I understand .

I can see you have questions about Maggie and why she's reacting the way she does. I sense you really want to continue exploring this potential relationship. Just be cautious about your feelings. Go slow and be clear when you have questions about what's happening in your friendship with her.

I have to say I'm not always straight up with my guy when I should be. He says things that upset me and I don't always address it immediately when it happens. I have trouble with conflict, but I try to bring up how his comment/ action bothered me later, say ...the next day.

Sometimes my boundaries are too soft.

Just some info on my experiences, I hope it helps you in some way.

I definitely go back and forth but there's something different about her so i can't help but to pay attention and ponder it. Idk I'll keep kicking it around i guess.

You should definitely be honest. I've always said how can i expect to believe someone is taking me for me when i show them who they want to see or a watered down version of myself? If you've got to change who you are to make it work then there probably not much value there to begin with.

@ScottUSA@ScottUSA@ScottUSA @ScottUSA Hi Scott, I don't know if my response is welcome now, as it's a bit late, but I am a woman, and I thought I would be helpful. I read this earlier, and I was doing some meditation. What I want to say is that, in all honesty, the woman does not sound happy or comfortable with the situation. I would let her do the work of getting back to you, and if she for some reason doesn't, then I would let the situation be. This is based on what you wrote. Hope this is not too straightforward, but only giving my two cents based on what you mentioned. It might be best to move on to someone who is not just more available to you but more comfortable with themselves and their decisions. It does not sound to me like this woman knows what she wants. She might in the end, end up causing more damage to herself and you if the situation continues. Again, I hope this does not sound too harsh, but it's what I feel. I wouldn't continue having a relationship with her in the short-term if you are looking for something serious or long-lasting, and it sounds like you are already doing that. Usually when things don't work out with someone from the start, it's because there wasn't enough to keep you there. I wonder if you really know her well enough to even know if this is someone you actually want to be with. Again, sorry if this is coming a bit late, and I realize maybe it's not a very nice answer, but since you asked, I thought I would provide my Point of view from a female perspective.

@reliable

Ive been mulling this over for months and don't take your response as negative at all as i have considered much of what you've said. The only thing that i keep getting stuck on is that she is legitimately diagnosed bipolar and adhd but refuses meds for personal reasons. Normally id have walked away without a 2nd thought. Ive definitely dated people over the years that made me feel like a burden or inconvenience and as much as it doesn't feel great i have no problem walking away because i realize its wasted energy. This was easily the most confusing situation I've ever been in and some days it was an amazing relationship and other days it was like dating another person. I'm still confused but also kinda think you're right. One of my golden rules is " you can't save someone from themselves" if she's not into it or doesn't see something there's nothing I'm ever going to do to make her see it so i need to walk away and let it be. My point of writing her i guess was to have my own closure that I've said what i had to say. Based on things she said over the time we dated she suspected I wasn't in it as much as she was. Its like when you see someone put up walls and push you away then a few days later she's asking me about planning a vacation together 6 months in the future. She brought up things that someone who isn't into you just doesn't say. Inquiring about doing a 3 year boat rental time share contact so we could rent a boat when we're traveling on vacation. Its really hard to explain because its difficult to explain context but I've honestly never seen anything like it. I read people to an insane degree but Maggie proved to be one i couldn't figure out. Anyway i really appreciate the response and take all points of view into consideration.

@ScottUSA

I was going to respond to you again because I wanted to reiterate it's not easy to get the whole picture online in a forum. You know your situation best. As long as you are not pressuring anyone into something they don't want or getting involved with someone with the wrong expectations, you are right, you have nothing to lose, we only live once, and if you think you might have a chance at something with her, I wish you good luck with, whatever you decide to do

@ScottUSA p.s. also to answer something you are questioning, I read something up about adhd before because this person I was seeing claimed he had it. In all honesty, this didn't excuse his behaviors in my case; I understand someone has a disorder but it doesn't excuse someone for behaviors that wouldn't otherwise be acceptable in a more "normal" circumstance. In other words, adhd or other disorders like depression, those should not excuse for example something that is verging on the line of toxic, if that is indeed the case. Just thought I would point that out because, you wouldn't put up with that from someone else, like if they have a nother illness that is not mental; yes, sure it can still affect them, but you wouldn't put with it unless you really really love and care about someone so much that you are willing to overlook your own needs and wants... ok, I really have to go now. Thanks, and I said good luck to you
