Are people just bad?

This is going to make me sound angsty but everyone just gets on my nerves all the time. I try so SO hard to see the good in everyone including myself but then I and everybody else around me always always always end up letting me back down again.

Like I get it. Misanthropy is boring, easy, too negative a world view. I get it. I really do try to see people for the positives and the love people have. But time snd time again something bad happens and I just don't see the point of continuing to try to see the best in people when they're repeatedly hypocrites or selfish or just ... bad. I'm not excluding myself from this either, I dislike myself a great deal more than anybody else actually I just. I get so mad at people.

Like no matter what I do its just more and more. I get it from my family, i got it from my friends when i had them, i get it from teachers and coworkers and rsndom people i see. Just everywhere. It just makes me feel worse because if what's tying all of us together is this inherent badness then like why do we continue to do it. And I know! I know the answer is to be the bigger person and be kind but I cannot for the life of me start to believe that'll actually change anything. There's nothing I can do 90% of the time and it just makes me feel sad and angry and I don't have anywhere to put those feelings.

I think you get to a certain age, and you look around you, then realize that people who aren't in charge are usually the people that certainly should be and those that have power abuse it or act less than stellar, usually a disappointment. The world is certainly short on ethical, moral, and upstanding characters as leaders. It would be great if people acted with integrity, upheld their values, honest in their word and deeds, dependable, responsible, ethical, and moral -- but that isn't the reality.

While there are a small handful of people out there able to do, they aren't usually popular or maintain enough clout to overshadow those that are simply ineffective, irresponsible, dishonest, untrustworthy, and disreputable.

We live in a world with imperfect people. I call it the Human Condition.

I think the situation is even more pronounced when you're well educated and read. Then, you're able to quickly determine when you're dealing with someone who is less than stellar. It can be very daunting, waste of time, and without a doubt disappointing.

There is really only one way to get through it, in my opinion.

You can choose who you associate with.

You realize that people are not perfect, never will be perfect.

You understand that the only person you can ever fully trust, is yourself.

Once you come to terms with these facts and start eliminating people in your life that are toxic, quick to ensure you have a vetting process for your inner circle, the better off things will go for you.

If you consistently look for perfection, expect people to act in a manner that reflects integrity, honesty, and responsibly consistently -- you're only going to find yourself sadly disappointed regularly.
