Didn't go trick or treating after I was 11 years old
Background:
There are only two things that you need to know. One I was bullied in school it was okay in Gr.1-Gr.6 but after Gr. 6 it got really bad -some examples are: chairs being switched because I liked a particular colour of chair, my water bottle being hidden when I wasn't in the class room and the one major one is one of two boys (was one boy but then was replaced by another boy both boys were "tall") would intentionally trip me when I passed them in classroom and when I complained the teachers were "They couldn't help it their legs are too long". The only time I ever seem to get a break from bullying was when I, and 2 of my main bullies had a "spare period/Study hall" because we're exempt from Francois classe (French class). There's one other major one but that deserves its only thread if anyone is interested in it. I do have a theory about why some of the kids were jealous of me but the theory seems a bit ridiculous really.
The other thing is from when I was 4-11 when I went trick or treating in the neighbourhood my Mom would go with me and even had an extra treat bag for when I needed to put candy into it from my little bag.
Main Story:
When I came home near Halloween Mom announced to me that I could go trick or treating by myself aka Mom wouldn't come with me. I couldn't explain it at the time, but I didn't very safe being out on my own with at least one of the bullies living nearby. I wasn't going to be in a group or anything so what would happen if bullies ran into me that night? When there would be no adult supervision
So because of that I started a 19 year tradition (I knocked off 2 years because of 1.I was at bowling last time Halloween fell on a Monday, and 2.Covid in 2020) of handing out treats to other children and teens.
I mean looking back I probably could be safe at certain houses but out on the sidewalk I wasn't safe or at least I don't think I was safe on my own.
@Disneywoman thank you for sharing this with us.
i understand how having a bully living nearby was making the situation unsafe for you. when having been bullied, it is understandable that in situations where you could possibly bump into them without any adult supervision could be scary and even dangerous :(
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Having a bully that makes you feel unsafe is never easy, I am glad you found you found a safe place like 7 cups to share your experiance.
