Do you think an open Relationship is Healthy?
Many people around the world are engaging/have engaged in an open relationship with their partners. It is where two individuals make a mutual agreement to be classified as a couple, but still have relations with other people of their choosing. What do you think about it?
A) Do you think it is a personal choice that can work for some people?
B) Are you indifferent about?
C) Do you sincerely disagree with this kind of arrangement?
@gentleDreamer76 - I fall into category A of that. I think that for two people who are on the same page about what they want and communicating really openly, it can work. It often does not because one of the people involved doesn't want it as much as the other or thinks they are okay with it, but discovers they aren't, and I think it can be risky for many relationships because of it. But in the right circumstances, I think it can work.
@gentleDreamer76 1.I'm sure it can work, as long as this really is what both partners want, and one partner isn't just going along with the other to keep from losing that partner entirely.
2. I really don't care what other people do in this regard.
I think that it really can't work, when in a marriage, there are vows that say promises to love and be faithful to one another as long as you both shall live, I think trust issues would be violated and if there was true love in the marriage, jealousy would creep in . If one wanted an open relationship , I think the idea of being married should be reconsidered. I am a firm believer of monogamy.
@GentleDreamer ... I believe that two people in a relationship can survive anything with communication, open minds and open understanding. Trust is also a huge part in any relationship. Whatever works for them may not work for others and I'm not one to judge what they do.
Personally I disagree with this because it doesn't allow them to focus as much as they should be on their partner, however maybe just with other friends - that's completely fine! But maybe without sexual or romantic attraction (just friends without mutual attraction, and if there is, then it isn't acted on)
@gentleDreamer76 ~ I do not judge anyone and wish everyone complete love and fulfillment in their life. With that said I do have a word of caution that I feel compelled to share. I have a very dear friend who had this kind of an arrangement with her partner and he brought home Gonorrhea. In her 30's my darling friend had to get a hysterectomy because of complications from the contracted STD. The shame, pain and suffering she endured was heartbreaking. And her relationship did not end well.

I think it is a very personal decision that either works or doesn't based on many, many factors. I think it can be done with the utmost respect and love and create happiness for everyone involved, and also that it can be done terribly wrong and cause a plethora of negative emotions including jealousy, insecurity, anger and resentment. If an individual feels ready for it and wants to do it, and finds another who is also as willing, both have to take each other's word for it that they'll be okay and they might as well try it out. If it isn't working, the key is communication (as is generally and always the case with anything to do in lfie). I think both involved, and then the others, have to be very level-headed people who are preferably already well experienced in relationships and equally importantly, know themselves. If one side of a relationship is pressuring the other into trying something, it gets trickier and has to be handled again by mature, respectful, and emphatetic individuals.
TL;DR It can work and it does work for many people, and it of course does not work and will never work for others, like almost everything in life.

While this is something that might not work for everyone it might work for others if both are on the same page about this like the others have said.
