Feeling trapped
I’ve been in a relationship for almost 3 years. It’s been mostly bad. He has cheated, we lost a baby, now we’re facing homelessness. He is mean to me. He is selfish. He is verbally abusive, but denies it. He yells at me a lot. I want it to get better but it can’t if I’m the only one trying. If I suggest living separately, or breaking up, he threatens suicide. Typing it out, I feel awful. I really love him and I see his potential, he needs help though. He has been through a lot of trauma, as I have, so it’s impossible to give up on him. How can I live peacefully? How can I convince him to get help?

I'm sorry you're in this tough spot. It's always hard to watch someone engage in self-destructive behavior that we know is due to trauma. Since you can't change another person, but only yourself, what changes might you, yourself, make to elevate and lighten your circumstances?
