Gordian's Knot or just stupidity?
I am an internet dweller, especially with COVID this year, I only go out for work and shopping. I have met a person online a little over a year ago in a gaming server and we became fast friends, to the point where they started opening up about their troubles. We've developed feelings for each other, to the point where we have made plans to meet when possible.
The issues comes in the form of a metal ring, which they've had for a few years. Their spouse was unfaithful during the first year of marriage (after a long relationship of supposed fidelity) and has been pressuring for an open marriage. Even with the denial and anger, this person is grieving. They are much more happy when not around the spouse and I do not know if we are making the situation worse by attempting to be together. They have stated an intent to divorce the unfaithful and there are no children.

Unraveling the knot
Facts-
1. Despite alleged infidelity in year1 of marriage, the marriage is alive several years on
2. You only have one side of the version regarding the intent to divorce with no corraboration
3. The metal rings exist as of this moment, they are married and unavailable
4. An open marriage is a marriage.
Questions-
1. What is the hope behind the meet-up?
2. What exactly is meant by attempting to be together? Are you okay with being the external part of their open marriage?
Summary-
Emotions can be tricky and feelings do not follow logic or reason. Relationships however, are completely conscious decisions to be with someone. They are like mutual contracts and come with expectations on both sides. So whether the current emotions would serve your expectations is something to consider when you unravel this knot. Good Luck!
