I need perspective...
I need perspective... maybe I am overreacting as a way to protect myself...
Sunday evening at 10 pm (I was already in my bed! and so my children) someone rang the bell. It was a dear friend's son. My friend is older than me and her son is my age. I met him only briefly a couple of times, nearly a year ago.
So on Sunday evening, he came to tell me that since then, he has often thought about me. He simply never had the courage to ask me on a date because of the fact that his mum is a friend of mine, but he couldn't bear it any longer. He is very charming. He left me his number and asked me to please consider the idea. So yesterday I texted him and said that I'd be happy to go for a drink. He read the text and... no reply. He has been online several times and a full day has passed. I find this rude... He couldn't wait any longer to let me know he was attracted to me and came at 10 pm, now he can't even text a short and polite 'cool, looking forward to it' reply?
Am I overreacting? In the past, I would always be patient and understanding when things like this would happen. And every time, this reluctance at communicating/easiness at disappearing turned out to be a big red flag saying that something was not right with this person.
I suck at boundaries and I am trying to work on them to ensure people respect me... Am I exaggerating though?
@admaiorasemper Hi! I wanted to let you know that in my experiance (from my younger days) no good ever came to me from a man knocking on my door at night. It doesn't sound to me like you are overeacting at all.
@admaiorasemper
I think your feelings are logical. I think if his feelings were honest he would have replied in a reasonable amount of time. This isn't to say there may not be reasons. As you expressed it is important to respect yourself. It is also important to see that those close to you respect you. If he doesn't (sounds mildly like that may be the case), you can do better and find someone who will respect you.
@admaiorasemper
I feel as though, if it happens once then okay. Things can happen and maybe he did have a reason or maybe he has his own insecurities. However, and this is important, if he continues with this behavior, then you should cut it off before it is too late. It is important to be understanding but if he cannot respect you then you won't be happy in a relationship with him. There is no sense in starting a relationship if problems are already occurring. In the end, give it a little time and then make your decision. There is no reason to feel bad for any decision you make because this all comes back to you and how you feel about it so I am wishing you good luck! I hope you are able to figure out what you want to do.
Lots of love you absolute treasure
Thank you everyone for your precious feedback. He finally texted after two days. Hmm. I don't really like this, but I told myself, he doesn't know this yet. He deserves a chance where I explain what my boundaries are, and then I shall see. Maybe he is someone who does things very differently from me without necessarily wanting to hurt anyone, but at the end of the day, I have to feel comfortable :) So... I guess time will tell.
