Is there even a remote chance he likes me

So I started uni a year late and in in my first year now. I hang out in front of the dorms with the others. There's a guy a year older than me who I really lile. We have spoken on a few occasions. All of the times we were speaking with a group of friends, we haven't been alone. He was talking to everyone but he was looking me in the eyes most of the time. Then this other time I was reading and he sat next to me and after a while asked me about what book I was reading and tried to hold a little conversation with me. He told me about his ex and how she liked the same author too. Then, because I had bought a pack of cigarettes, he reffered to me as the baby with the cigarettes to another guy standing next to us. Then we made room on the bench for another person and I said that I can scoot over in order to make more room and he told me that I'm small and the bench will fit all three of us. In our language we have a word for small and cute and he used that form of the word. I don't know if I'm reading too much into things. Is there a chance he is interested in me? How can I find out without asking directly?
