It'll be my first time to ride an airplane and I'm nervous already
My sister is set to tie the knot with his foreign boyfriend. The wedding will take place in the States--- that means my whole family will be traveling to a foreign land. But I have a problem. It'll be my first time to ride in an airplane and I'm nervous already. I know it sounds funny but this is so true. How do you advice someone who will ride an airplane for the very first time, not to mention that I have fear with heights? Please help!
Personally, I would say that being in a plane doesn't feel high up. Maybe that's because it's enclosed. Someone I know feels fear crossing a bridge, and has often had to turn back part way across a bridge, but they have no problem at all in a plane, so I think they would agree that it doesn't feel high up.
The riskiest part of the trip is the road journey to and from the airport at each end. Road travel is much less safe than air travel. Once you're airborne you can relax, as far as actual safety is concerned.
Your airline's website might have more information about how to cope. Someone else I know wanted to turn back at the gate, just before boarding the plane. The airline staff knew exactly what to do to help. Later, her doctor prescribed medication that helped, and after a few more flights the problem had completely gone.
So if you feel bad at the time you are travelling, I'd suggest you tell the airline staff. If you feel really terrified, your doctor might be able to help.

@alfie22 I suggest to prepare as much as possible. How will you get to the airport? Are there any layovers to your trip? Do you need snacks, a book, etc.? Do you know how you will get to the venue, where you will be staying, etc.? Will you have time to sightsee or do anything "fun"?
Not everyone likes to plan in great detail but I find it really helps me.
