Long Distance

Okay, so I grew to absolutely love one guy. I met him back in 2012. He knew me better than I did, helped me through everything and talked me out of ending things horribly in my life. We we really close. I trusted him more with what I could tell no one else. We made plans to meet each other in the future and get married and all that. There are so many tedious things. Just last June, he disappeared. I don't know what happened to him. We talked as if we were to see each other in the morning and that was it. I don't know what to do. I feel like I've been dying since he left. I reverted back to my awful mental state and I've lost my ability to make art. I had a career planned in animation, and now I can't make anything decent. I want to wait for him, but I'm scared I will be waiting too long or he won't ever come back. I want things to go back to the way they were so I could be with him again and get my life back on track. He meant everything to me. I have tried moving on, but I still cry so often when I think of him. There are so many more little details that would help you better understand our relationship, but I feel this is too long already?

Is there any way to fix this?

I've had similar happen to me but I at least had closure from the person who left. If this is really them leaving it's not polite of them at all to be leaving you hanging like this...also cowardly but it may be they are afraid of doing you worse damage if they were to give their explanations and it's not really worth speculating all the possible reasons they may have. If you've been repeatedly attempting contact to no avail I suggest not doing that for a while as most guys seem to get overwhelmed when there's a lot of messages and they may perceive it as over neediness.

It's good that you're trying to move on. Time and meeting new people will help. In the meantime chatting online in supportive communities both anonymously and not helped me through some rough breakup aftermaths. (Sometimes a group of same people who are regulars in chatting will tire of hearing about it repeatedly in a main group chat but if they're a good group there should be at least one person who'll offer their ears so that way people sort of take turns with the listening so not all get tired at the same time. It's fine if you're taking your time to get over it. Some people take a shorter time, others it can take months....years if the relationship spanned decades in some cases.)

@CoinFountain Thank you. I have tried messaging him the first couple weeks and they all spanned out over time. Not one has been sent in a long time because I didn't want to clutter his inbox. He never checked the messages on any of the accounts or pages in the last few months. I don't think I care at this point whether or not we see each other or end up together again. I need some sort of closure. I wanted to hug him at least once if nothing else happens between us.

@RINWaverly88 oh boy, I know how you feel. sad I was in a ldr relationship for five years when he suddenly left as well. Has your (ex) had a prior habit of leaving suddenly without warning? If so, it may be wise to being to set a time that you will allow yourself to wait for him (if you haven't already done so). Do you know if he is alright or has been online (maybe secretly?). With my ex, he was going online and I was able to find that out. If you aren't sure if he is alright, have you tried contacting his friends or family members that could maybe tell you what happened? If you try that, please do not pry too much, especially if you are not especially close to them as it could make things worse.

If you have tried all that I have suggested (which I'm sure is likely the situation, as it's been awhile since he has contacted you), I can assure you that you have exhausted all means of keeping your relationship alive. It's sad and traumatizing when someone apparently ditches you without warning. However, it's important to know that the reason why they left like that was not your fault. A mature and emotionally balanced person would have very little reasons for this sudden abandonment (outside of being abused by their partner). I know that it's quite easy to blame yourself, as I did that many times but in the end you have to think of it as their loss and your gain. They lost someone who obviously cared about them, you gained in knowledge that you deserve better.

I'd invite you to read this article, it may help with some of the confusion and pain. If you need someone to talk to who understands, don't be afraid to reach out, take care! heart

@TrueArrow We talked every day as we have been for the past few years. He also seemed determined to see me in the future so we could have life together. Even when I was going through horrible times, he promised that he would find some way to come to me. We we both in school at the time so traveling would have been difficult. I talked to his mother and she said he's doing fine. I sent her a message back in August, but only about two with one conversation. She said he was moving out of the house, getting his license, attending school, etc. I just assumed he had no time for me. I tried going on to his social media, and he hasn't had any sort of activity since 2015. He really isn't the sort to post much.

I feel that because of the way we talked and how well he treated me that he wouldn't leave without good reason. Hell, we even jokingly talked out a scenario in which one of us ends up with another and we still have sparks flying. I figured something would happen between us.

@RINWaverly88 I'm really sorry for the pain you are experiencing sad are you willing to set a date for how long you are willing to wait for him? I know it's tough to think of a future without him but at some point (whenever you decide you are ready) you need to let him go and all the dreams you had with him. I know that's an incredibly difficult thing to hear but I know that from experience, that even if he decided to come back, it's rather hard to maintain the trust and respect you originally had for him.

Before my ex left for the last time, he actually left me for a period of nine months. When he came back, he claimed it was due to depression he was experiencing. I told him I was afraid he would leave again but he reassured me he wouldn't. To make a long story short, he ended up leaving periodically for days, weeks and sadly sometimes months, claiming a host of issues for the rest of the time we were together after that. I stuck by his side because I was afraid of letting go...afraid of losing all the time and energy I invested in the relationship. I spent too many nights crying over someone that was doing God knows what when he was away.

The last time I heard from him, he claimed to be having a host of issues and told me he needed to be gone again to get his life together, always claiming that he would "be back soon". I waited four months without any reply or contact by him (knowing that he was fine, playing video games and adding girls to his Facebook). When I finally wrote to him that I needed to let him go, he announced that he was "deeply" in love with someone less than two weeks after that email (a girl he had added to his Facebook previously no less during the time he claimed to be getting his life together). Never received a reply to any emails I had previously sent. I was absolutely gutted. Problem was, he had let go of the relationship a long time ago...he just didn't have the courage to tell me.

Moral of the story? Don't be a fool like me. You deserve so much better but it's okay to still be upset and heck, I totally get why you still want to hang on. Just make sure you do have a date set where you are no longer willing to wait, it's not fair to you no matter what the situation is.

I really hope my story helped even though it wasn't a happy one but I hope it helps you feel less alone. heart

I've been there. Don't freaking wait for anyone. Noone is worth losing your life plans/future career/passion for. Absolutely noone. Make yourself a priority, forget about him. I know it is tough to get over him, but trust me, it is achiavable. I'm a living proof of that.
Just please don't waste your precious time waiting for someone. People are temporary, the only person who stays with you throughout your whole life, and is there at your best and worst, is yourself.
