Met somebody new..

So, I had been with my partner for several years but the last few years he’s changed. COVID led me to moving in full time with him and he began to become this self centred person who only thought about himself or cared about himself. Eventually I decided that I wanted some space and moved out. He still wants to make it work and says he’ll change but I don’t trust him anymore and this isn’t the first time he’s said he’ll change and I come back and the cycle continues. This time I’ve asked him to prove the change real. I don’t feel comfortable talking to him or sharing my thoughts because he just gets angry and yells at me. He yelled at me once in front his whole family about an intimate fertility fear that I wasn’t willing to share with everyone but because it didn’t fit his plan and he’d been drinking, my thoughts and feelings on my own body weren’t even a consideration. I was wasting his time because it was all he ever wanted. So.. it’s not really a great relationship there to start with.

However, to complicate matters worse, I met somebody new. I recently clearly just blew up my life but I’ve gotten to know this new person on a different level over the past few months. Something draws me into them like a magnet. We’ve not slept together or kissed or anything of the sort just talked and through talking created more of a connection than I ever expected. Today they told their wife that they are unhappy and found somebody new. Now I’m full of anxiety and going to be sick over the thought of messing everybody’s lives up. It’s one thing to blow up my own life but an entirely different one to blow up someone else’s too unintentionally. I’m not a small child so I know better than to even begin to get to know a married man but he also pursued me.

I hope you see that your partner most likely will not change and you need to be ready to move on.....

Are you concerned that you are not ready to give up on partner but your new friend is ready to go all in ..... it is not about who pursued who but you connected on a level that this guy thinks it is worth leaving his current situation ... did you both discuss that possibility did he know you are sort of involved too?

Yeah, that’s sort of the conclusion I’m coming to with the first one.

As for the new connection, yes. We talked about both relationships openly, as well as our feelings for one another but we also agreed that we would let the other person decide what they were going to do and there was no pressure on either side to do anything and we would remain close friends. I blew up my life because I had to but I never thought he would blow up his.

Now that he has are you secretly happy / or nervous or scared that it can become real..... what is your fear in taking it to another level...... was the connection forming just flirting gone too far?

i ask because i too have formed a connection to someone and IF he did leave his situation i would be thrilled ... when we discussed it he was nervous and kind of made me sad that he started to stammered at the idea of being a real situation....

I am happy in a way but my heart also breaks because of the family and people involved and the pain that it causes people. I see both sides of the coin right now and while the fact he told her means we’re one step closer it also means he’s going through a lot of changes right now or very soon will be and I’m afraid he might change his mind and regret the decision.

@brightSky979

if you have feeling and want him don't let him regret betting on YOU..... the biggest regrets we have in life are the things we never did or tried......

I think knowing it’s happening is such a different feeling than knowing it’s a possibility.

leaving a partner especially a wife, is a big deal so I can see why he might be a little uncomfortable at the idea of that becoming real. We didn’t pressure each other which was hard but things play out in their right time. He says he was ready and to have no doubts but it was several years before he got to that point as well and many of those were well before me.

@brightSky979

i understand as my friend is teetering on it and yes it would be a big upheaval ,,,, i would have NEVER imagined this in my life but the connection and the feeling we have are stronger then i have ever felt and i am frankly glad for that to know there is more in life. I honestly ask myself everyday what if and as crazy as it sounds i would drop everything and go ....
