Romantically interested in a fictional character
Hi.. I'm interested in a fictional character named Osmosis Jones and I don't know how to get rid of this feeling.
I've been told I can't have a relationship with him because he is not real and can't except guys to be like him when it comes to what I'm interested in a guy. Although this is true, I still have affections for this character. I love his grin. His bravery and eccentricness..
I never had feelings for anybody real in the way I do for Ozzy. I only had litte crushes here and there but none of it was as strong as my feelings for him. I'm just wondering if this is a serious problem or not and what should I do about it. I also havefeelings for other fictional characters as well.
I don't think it's wrong because it's vaild to me. Some of my family members find it as a problem.
I went to the therapist and she told me my feelings for him are fine. I just need to look at him as a characters that has good elements but nothing romantic. This is a bit hard for me.
@VaraMoon
Is he from a game or show? I know that's kind of irrelevant but I'm interested. I've certainly heard of this before and I've felt this way as well. Hmm what I found that helped me was trying to stay distracted and being around friends/family more
@wonderousHeart14
Well, he's from a movie and has his own tv show.
Well, that can be good but the feelings are still there...What I do is just write fanfiction of him and I.It helps with the feelings.
@VaraMoon
I don't think that there is anything wrong with liking a fictional character as you would with a "real" person because essentially, you are drawn to the character's certain traits...which you would to a real person too. The only issue that would be problematic your romantic feelings for this character is affecting your daily love life, in where you would break up with your current partner for example for this fictional character, or where you would not go out with a potential date etc. However, if there isn't anyone in your life right now who matches your description of a good romantic partner, it sounds to me that there really isn't any harm in having feelings for a fictional character. I think many of us have experienced this at some point in our lives as it is so easy to be drawn into the world of fiction.
If you do feel like your feelings are getting too much, though, where it's disrupting your daily functioning. The best way to counter that is to hang out with some friends, get to know new faces. Chances are, this is a phase that will pass eventually.
There is absolutely nothing wrong romantically liking fictional characters....I think everyone does at some point, some longer than others
@VaraMoon
Have you seen the fandoms on tumblr? A lot of people go through this with varying degrees of intensity. As long as you can balance this and it doesn't become something that consumes your whole life, it's fine.
Side note: Osmosis Jones is pretty awesome.
@WildUnknown
Yeah. Of course. I checked them out a long time ago. I'm not apart of them because they can get hectic and it's usually not my style to join one.
Thanks for noticing. :D
@VaraMoon
Hey there. Do you find that you are drawn to the character's personality more than the way the character looks?
@BurningEmber
I would say so. Yeah. I became a demisexual when I realized I had an interest in Osmoiss Jones.
I really like his personallity because it's versatile. He can be funny and serious and that's what I like about him. :)
@VaraMoon
Yeah there is nothing wrong with having a crush like this. It is totally normal to see this character as the expectation that you want someone you romantically connect with to have!
@VaraMoon
I can understand your passion for a character. I had this issue back in high school when I realized I was in love with an anime character. I liked everything about him. Problem was when I found in reality in my school a person who looked (in my head) exactly like this character. I started stalking that person and I finally introduced myself to them to a point when I realized the person was a ..........girl. I was shocked. All their traits were masculine and I knew myself to be straight. I felt so confused and tricked by my own mind.
All I'm saying is there is nothing wrong with appreciating a character. Just be sure not to confuse that feeling with anything from reality. Avoid projecting such feelings to real people and be sure to allow yourself to love someone real for who they are. If you like a character that much it may mean you are just discovering some traits you appreciate more than others. But just be careful with how you deal with it. As you see my example above... :)
@cristiana33
Thanks for showing that story to me. I wouldn't really bother to since I find some people who barely resemble him but act like him in a way.
I never had this experience before.
I would just say I'm infatuated with him and mostly him.
@VaraMoon
I like that about him too! He's a pretty great character!
