Hello everyone and thank you in advance for reading. I am struggling to understand what love is and what a healthy relationship looks like. I thought I knew, but I guess I’m struggling with maintaining a relationship because I don’t know if I’ve ever truly loved anyone I’ve ever been with. I’ve had romantic relationships for the entity of my adult life and still don’t know if I’m doing it right. I was told I don’t deserve a girlfriend the other day by my partner when she was pissed at me because “I’m too much of a f***ing p**** to be a man.” I feel lost, hurt, anxious, and confused, among other things.

I think you should look up what healthy relationships look like, and what are men’s roles and women’s roles in relationships. I didn’t know either because I didn’t have healthy models for relationships growing up. It took a significant amount of sticking to for me to finally discard my past ways of thinking and replace them with what healthy relationships are supposed to like. I looked up all the said information mainly on YouTube. And just a small note, if someone says that you’re that thing your partner called you, and that you’re not man enough to have a girlfriend, by my books that’s grounds enough to break things off. This is probably also a sign that maybe this isn’t the best time for you to be in a relationship, and you probably need to set some time aside to self reflect and work on your internal stuff, nonetheless, that kind of language has no place in a healthy relationship. Having said that, I do have to tell you that I have a very short lease for tolerating bad behavior these days, so I don’t know if I’m suggesting something too radical for you. At the very least, this kind of language should not be repeated again. If you’re lost, you need to look inwards to rediscover yourself. Don’t let angry words hurt your self worth. Work on your self instead. The right people come and stay in our lives when we are in the right frame of mind - this at least I know from experience. I hope things will get better for you. Please don’t betray yourself. Lots of love.
