- CONTEXT: My ex-boyfriend and I have been dating for a year. We just ended this April, He's my first love. He was depressed and insecure. It was clear we won't last long, but I still pursued him, cause I did love him. The guy was academically smart, had a sense of humor, and was a nice guy, or so I thought. We decided to attend the same uni together, which was a good school, like a top 4 school in my country. Unfortunately, I didn't get in, yet, I passed the other entrance exams. My parents decided to return me to my old school to finish my education. I was depressed, cause not only did I get rejected, I was also embarrassed. My dad spoke harsh words to me, saying that I was "stupid for not getting in". While my boyfriend was at the time passed the exam. I felt hurt cause he didn't even study for it, and still passed the exam. Once he discovered that I'm returning to our old school, he was devastated cause it was a little far away. We decided to meet every Friday. We would fight every 2 months, about things like his gaming all day. until it got emotionally draining. Fast forward, up until the last day. It was prom night, and he ditched me. he said he was scared to enter, cause the others might see him. He was being obnoxious. I got so angry, and still, I was the one who had to understand him and say sorry. It wasn't the same after that. Things started getting heated up around us. I realized that I wasn't happy anymore. I easily get angry at him, until one day we decided to take a break. He said he wanna fix himself and go to the gym and make some new friends at school. I supported him on his decision, I sent a heartfelt message about it, like long, about me being grateful that I met him, and he should love himself. All he responded was goodbye.
I started asking myself, why make new friends now? Why not make new friends while we're still together? I wasn't stopping. I don't mind him being friends with anyone, as long as he doesn't cheat.
Now I'm thankful for all my friends who support me. I realized that you have to learn to love yourself. Admit to your mistakes. This breakup is a lesson for you to improve yourself. You deserve more. I'm not saying this girl/guy is a bad person, but you deserve someone who values you and treats you better. This experience brought me to 7cups to learn to love myself.
May God bless my ex
TIPS:
* Eat ice cream, or have some comfort food you like
* Listen to break-up songs; it helps
* CRY it all out (*note: It's normal to cry randomly)
* watch movies
*DELETE all your conversations, don't text him/her. Your mind is just confused cause it's adjusting
*Try new hobbies
*Join support groups
*NEVER have a rebound, it's not FIXING, you're just hurting yourself. (Love yourself first)
*Talk to someone (friends, someone you can trust, me)
*go outside
*Understand yourself, know your mistakes. Journal what you feel, let it all out
*Put some quotes on your phone
*Talk to yourself, and say you love yourself
*DELETE photos
Don't rush yourself. You gotta let it all out to live your life
