Too much or no?

So a couple months ago I met this guy in a class. We hit it off and went out a couple times and from my perspective we really liked each other. Then he decided I was too young and that we shouldn’t go out anymore. We’ve remained goodish friends since then but we aren’t as close anymore. Tomorrow is his birthday and I was going to give him a card and write in it “Thank you for being such a good class partner and an even better friend. I’m so happy I got the chance to get to know you” Is this too much? I still have feelings for him so i try and be aware of that so as not to make him uncomfortable. But i also don’t wonder if he still likes me? Or if it’s just wishful thinking on my behalf. Would reading this making him upset or anything, because I don’t want that to happen. Thoughts?

In my opinion, this could just be worded better. Losing close friends is always very tough. However, you didn't state your age/age gap so it's hard to tell what he was thinking. There is a possibility that he never had feelings/lost them quickly and used age as an excuse. He also could've been telling the truth, and he thinks you're too young. I think it would be best to talk to him about it. Ask him if he has feelings for you.

Like the message or my post is worded badly? I didn’t loose him as a friend, only as a romantic partner. And the age gap is only 4 years, i’m a junior in college and friends with people way older than he is. While i do still have feelings for him, I’m not brave enough to have that conversation with him. My question was if my feelings have made the message in his card too much emotionally, like more than what you’d say to a casual friend. I’ve already wrote them in his card so I’ll just give it to him and if he finds it upsetting then we can talk about it i guess.
