Trying new things
My boyfriend of 8months has asked if while we go out on a little weekend get-away if I wanted to bring a little something to spice up the experience. When I asked what it was, he mentioned MDMA, popularly known as Ecstasy or Molly….
when he brought this up I was appalled. In highschool my friends messed with it, as well as other drugs but I never imagined touching it. Not to seem close-minded, I did some research and not to my surprise, my anxiety towards the idea increased. The risks are so high when it comes to taking it, as well as the what if factors that I don’t know if I will be comfortable with it… If I did take it I would probably only take 1/4 of the pill due to my fear of somehow fucking up and going to the hospital. But all in all; I just don’t know what to do. Why do we need to take a drug to enhance our romantic weekend?? Why do I feel like if I say no the taking this he is gonna be disappointed or upset? Is it that bad of a drug??? Is it something that isn’t actually that bad??? am I just being a prude??
@PurpleViolin626 No, you are not being a prude. MDMA first came into style when I was in college more than 20 years ago. A lot of my friends on the clubbing scene leaned into it hard. I tried it once. It was wonderful, but I was skeptical of anything lab created. It wasn't until the first research that was published about it effects on the brain's neurotransmitters came out that I said that I would never use it again. It can really upset the balance of all those happy chemicals that your brain naturally produces. I noticed my friends that were heavy users would have tremendous mood swings days after heavy dosing. I generally just didn't want to be around them. They were moody and miserable. Some of the heaviest users developed depression and are still recovering. Will one time hurt you? No, not really. You'll enjoy it. It makes you feel warm and euphoric. For me, a high quality joint or bowl (also not the healthiest) will get you close enough to the euphoria without the long-term damage. Proceed cautiously. It sounds like you are.
Thank you for the very detailed response.
my boyfriend has taken it before. He explained that he takes all precautions— takes certain vitamins, keeps the temperature of the room regulated, wont go clubbing or do the party scene — He told me he would make sure everything in perfection setting wise so therefore the risks are even more unlikely. I Feel like overal I’m psyching myself out
@PurpleViolin626 Well, from my experience, you don't want to go into any drug with high anxiety. You won't have a good time. I myself have generalized anxiety so a lot of drugs do not mix well with my condition. It's important to be surrounded by people you trust when you do. Drink plenty of water so you don't dehydrate. And like I said, don't over do it or make it a long-term habit unless you want to be a cranky mess when you come down.
@PurpleViolin626
It is quite healthy and normal of you to have done research on a subject you seemed apprehensive about. You are not obligated to feel comfortable taking any substance, everyone has the right to decide what is right for their own bodies.
The answer to your question is: you don't have to take a drug. You might feel scared of disappointing your partner because you care about him and you want to make him happy. The thing is, you do not have to compromise yourself for another person's wants.
You are the expert of your life and what you feel is valid. If you do not want to do it, then don't.
