Unexpectedly Emotionally Unavailable

So let me get this straight. The only reason I let him in in the beginning is because he said that he is looking for someone to love and all those things that are in a relationship. Fine, and I was upfront with him too about looking for the same thing. This was all during lockdown. When the lockdown abated, we met 3 times. He wasn't as affectionate in person compared to texting. We continued texting every day and our texts sound like what any other couples would text each other. Now almost 3 months later, I communicated with him that if anytime he's into someone else, he should let me know and we must part ways. So that's out in the open. His reply to that is telling me that he needs to be okay with himself and heal from his past traumas before even looking to be in a relationship. I'm not sure how to handle this situation or even what healthy train of thought to have? Because it's a completely new situation to me. I'm also tired / lazy to look for someone else because of all my past hurts. I thought I did the right thing by purposely not starting anything with emotionally unavailable guys, but now here I am. What do I do?

@lifenomad

It seems as he's emotionally empty he's unable to express his affection physically to you, so that makes me wonder why go into relationship at all with that kind of mental being? My best guess is that he entered a relationship with you with a confused state of mind. It's a known rule that one should totally move on from the past before getting a new relationship but he didn't do that and it backfired so this makes it feel like a rebound case. My best suggestion is that you two need to cut contact with each other for as long as you two need to sort your feelings out since even he himself said that he "needs to be ok and heal from his past traumas".
