felt lied to about ASD program
In my post about "Briar" from the one day program- I mentioned that on Thursdays in 2016 I was attending a different program so I wasn't attending the normal program on Thursdays. This thread is going to be only going to be about that other program. It was an employment program and at the time, it was for people 18-25 who has ASD. It might have been called something else now and is for more then just ASD.
Story:
When I was going to the gym in fall of 2015-I noticed a poster for the ASD program. I was kind of interested to see what it s was like. When I talked to the main leader-she kind of "sold" it that "they would help me get a job" while I do "several weeks of placement".
But that didn't happen during the program- that they told us to "apply for jobs outside of classroom" which was kind of annoying because they're suppose to help us do that during the 2 (or eventually 1 day) in the classroom.
So by the (delayed0 end of the program, I felt kind of lied to because I'm did not have a job and yet they "sold" the program to me that by the time I left the program I would have a job.
That's with the additional 'headache" so to speak of how the one leader has no clue about what its like being on Disability income. Because she kept going ON and, ON, and ON, about how "once we find jobs we should get more hours by covering others' shifts in the event of them having an emergency, vacation time, etc.
And she was still saying that even *after* I literally spelled it out to her that some of us couldn't do that because it meant we would get "over paid" and couldn't risk loosing disability income.
@Disneywoman it really sounds like this leader had little understanding on disability income and was not empathetic, either.

@KateDoskocilova and its was really annoying about that due to the fact she was disabled but she had a bit of a high ranking job being a professor at the attached university to the college I attended

@KateDoskocilova I mean the placements were fine and two of them I could have worked at- but in the in the one place it was a therapeutic farm in my town but the only way I would be able to get there if I had wanted to work there would be by my Dad driving me. the other was a a gardening centre-and I would also need to have Dad drive me there as well.
I did get a bet jealous because the group who were in the program after me got to try some kind of placement in a hospitality setting- I believe it was a Banquet setting but I might mis-remember which I would have liked to do.
