“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,"
💡What does it help you with? The basic problem is in this world there are many that oppose us and some even seek to do us harm. It is a natural instinctive reaction to strike out in anger against them. It is part of the function of the amygdala to fight or take flight.
The problem is when I let the amygdala control my actions, it creates a mess. When I strike out at others, I feel distressed and the peaceful feeling I had is lost. When I strike others they want to strike me back. This is an endless cycyle of misery.
I know the bible asys "an eye for an eye" but someone I read pointed out that with thta philosophy we will all be blind.
So instead the Master says "He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."
In other words everyone is deserving of not being harmed. Everyone deserves to be treated with compassion. If their actions are harmful to others, harming them does not make a right. It only creates more harm. By not harming them I do not condone their actions, I stop the cycle of endless violence towards each other.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ~ So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
This verse reminds me that my inner self is more important than putting on a good show to impress people. Live for what lasts, not for what is fleeting and impermanent.
