7Cups has a Twitter site, we are told it's OK to have our own 7Cups Twitter feed, yet Social Media is prohibited on 7Cups...?????????
I don't get this at all. Can SOMEBODY please provide some clarification on what is and is not acceptable? Thanks
@mattcris - Honestly dude, I have no idea either. There's something on the site called "Social Soldiers".
I'll take a paragraph from the thread by @Cadence which explains it: "Social Soldiers are people that use 7Cups-designated social media to guide people in the right direction, hopefully leading them to the site where they can talk to someone who truly cares. They use the handles Twitter, Reddit and/or Tumblr, and check the tags for depression, or self harm, or anything along those lines."
Pretty much I think it's a promotional thing for 7 Cups. But yeah I hope someone else can explain it better ( @Lyra ) maybe, because I have no damn clue.

Hopefully, I can shed some light on this matter -- though @OrunLeon provided some awesome information too!
On 7Cups, sharing social media is a big no-no for various reasons, including confidentiality, safety etc. This site is not a social media website, and we like to maintain the ethos of 7CupsOfTea which is active listening.
As for 7Cups social media, this is a different story. Many listeners partake in a project called 'Social Soldiers' which was "created with the intent on eliminating the stigma that comes along with mental illness on social media, guiding those who are depressed/having a hard time/need someone to talk to right here to 7CupsOfTea. We need to be here for people who may feel as though they have no other place to turn." *
Social Soldiers create 7Cups-designated social media, such as twitter/tumblr/reddit accounts with _7Cups at the end of the username to respond to people's messages in need of a listening ear, with a reply that is compassionate, kind and guiding them to 7Cups.

Zara I appreciate your response, but here's the thing...you have over 200 people you are following on your 7 Cups Twitter page, if any of them follow you as well, then they have the ability to Direct Message you. And people can Tweet to you regardless of whether they are following or not, and vice versa. Bottom line, if any tweets/messages are shared over there, then there IS social media communication. I understand it's a rule here, but IMO it really is a silly one. Most adults are well aware of the importance of staying safe and using good judgement online without being told how or when to do it. That said, I do understand this rule having merit between Members and Listeners. But between fellow Listeners ? I don't get that.

I hope you don't mind me replying to you again. I do understand your confusion as it can indeed be a little baffling sometimes as to where to draw the line in Social Soldiering between doing our duty and social media sharing.
I hope I can shed some light, but I'll also tag in @Laura @Heather @Gracey @Jaelin and @Iara in, in case there are more pointers I've missed out.
Being a Social Soldier comes with the responsibility of acting professionally on the designated account. We do our duty, offering warm words and a home at 7Cups to all who are hurting and that's that.
I'm glad you realise that this rule is in place between members and listeners for clear reasons, you're one cool cookie -- I'm really genuinely happy you're here! From what I know, the rule also exists between listeners to avoid bringing offsite conflict onsite, which has occurred multiple times in the past. Thus the rule was enforced. Does that make any sense? I'm also going to tag @Lyra here because she's a lot better at explaining things than me xD
