@EmmanuelGoldstein You are way to smart for me. I understood about 5 words of that.

@TheNanaLove

Oh my deepest apologies. I tend to do stuff like that as in my ways I am the very model of a modern major general. Actually that doesn't fit in with the context so I'll just have to hope you haven't seen the Pirates of Penzance.

But a fusion reaction is basically when multiple atomic nuclei build up enough to speed to collide into each other and form a new nucleus and give off loads of energy in the form of photons, and then put the split up the nucleus again through the use of fission and then put it back together and then break it apart and put it back together and break it apart and put it back together and so on and so forth creating indefinite energy.

The downside is that the rest of the energy industry would be go completely bust. Well technically oil and gas would still survive as it would be dedicated to extraction; polymer, naphtha and bitumen production. But coal, wind, solar? Things of the past. Though there would likely be a massive drop in the shareholder confidence of oil and gas companies would fall and countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE would suffer a major economic collapse.

The political and socio-economic shockwaves are collasal so the creation of the first thermonuclear reaction for civil purposes would have effects well outside of the physics community.

Sorry about that, it's quite a big subject and I just couldn't help myself. Oh and I was a bit wrong in what I said first about being able to complete nuclear fusion. We already know how to complete an uncontrolled thermonuclear reaction for militaristic purposes (The hydrogen bomb) but we don't know hwo to create a controlled thermonuclear reaction that can be sustained long enough to grant the desired effects or simulate the fusion that takes places within stars. Ideally we'd want cold fusion which is nuclear fusion taking place at room tempratures rather than those taking place in stars which is in the area of 2.7x10^7 degrees Farenheit or 1.8x10^7 degrees Celsius.

Oh bugger I've done it again. Sorry about that, I just really couldn't help myself.
