Suicide Prevention Campaign
Hello! I've been spending some time trying to figure out where I should post this so I apologise if this is not the right place.
It might be a weird request but I would appreciate all the help. I'm currently studying graphic design and we have been given a project in which we have to design a campaign (consisting of a static, printed poster, a short film and an interactive piece of work) related to a social issue of our choice. I decided to focus on suicide prevention (mostly in young people/students) because I feel it's a subject that deserves more attention and people often don't know how to see when there's something wrong with someone until it's too late (and if they do, they often don't know how to help them).
The target audience for this campaign are not suicidal people, but people who are most likely not familiar with such issues, and my goal is to make people learn more about it and about how they could prevent it.
What would make people want to get involved, learn more about this issue and how they can prevent it (if not random strangers then at least people they are close to, like family or friends)?
Is talking enough for people who go through this? Would they rather talk to someone they know, face to face or to strangers and/or specialists ?
Generally having one person listen to them whether its a friend, family member or stranger who shows empathy and caring will go a long way with someone who is suicidal. Also linking them into suicidal hotlines and websites. Also saying to them many people in your situation may think about ending their lives, have you ever thought about suicide--askign them directly. And if they say yes, listening and caring and showing empathy. and then refer. Hope this helps!:)
