Where can I find a crisis resource that wasn't made by the Gestapo?
So Laura has decided to make my life a living hell by sending me constant copy and paste messages that this is not a crisis centre. I think I got the message Laura after the 79th one. The messages are so sterile and unaccepting it astounds me that she ever reached the position she is now. All I can say is the founder must be likeNgo Dinh Diem. But back the question. I'm constantly being told of these magic resource centres that deal with those who are suicidal. Well it looks like they were made by the Gestapo because NONE of them work. Honestly, (to the makers of these websites)do you want these people to die? Because giving us a false link to a "chat" with a "trained volunteer" isn't going to help.
Hi Tortoise,
Just to react on your question, have you seen this resource sheet made by 2 listeners a while back? It gives international resources not only for suicidal thoughts, but also for other topics. I hope that helps you :)
I sense the frustration in your writing, which probably comes from your sincere desire to help the people you're writing about. However, I think you're being a bit unfair to those who are also sincerely trying be helpful, though not necessarily meeting your expectations.
7CupsOfTea is not a substitute for professional diagnosis, counseling, therapy or training. Its much more modest mission is to lend a sympathetic ear for a short time to those who need one. The people who volunteer as listeners are not by and large trained professionals, just one's average person willing to help people they do not know in some way. That is one of the reasons behind some restrictions, like not offering advice.
Certainly, as a listener one occasionally encounters a person in desperate need of greater level of assistance than the listener can provide. The reference tools are a resource the listener can share with the member or guest. They are clearly no substitute for direct, face to face assistance.
Yes, there are limitations to how much help we can be, but we can still be helpful to many people who can benefit from what we can offer.
I hope you find something that meets your standards and criteria even if it is not at 7CupsOfTea. If it doesn't exist, perhaps you will direct your passion toward building such a resource to provide the level of support you deem necessary.
Cheers.
Tortoise,
Many of us have offered to chat with you. You are more than welcome to PM any of us that have posted in your threads before. We are available to chat, and we are willing to chat, but we do need you to meet us halfway by telling us when you would like to talk with us.
I know Kane. I'm fine with this website but I'm not fine with the crisis resources
I'm sorry you are still having struggles. I know that you have spoken at length with Kane before. So it seems like the two of you already have a foundation together. From this foundation can emerge a better relationship. So perhaps, she may just be the right listener to assist you in the future:)
Hi Tortoise, I attempted to find a way to private message you, but to no avail. I just wanted to let you know that your sardonic and dry sense of humor didn't go unnoticed by me. The frustration of dealing with automated responses are enough to make anyone throw their angry, empty hands to the heavens and shriek wildly for human contact. I know, as I've done that very thing while waiting in the phone queue to talk to a human being at my bank. 1984 is happening right now. George Orwell called this stuff years ago. I empathize with your plight!
Wow. Thanks for empathising. I assume you've seen my 1984 references. Either that or you work for the NSA. Either way I don't care. I am an advocate for censorship. But thanks. I think the worse thing is that I live in the UK. Land of pessimists and people like me. You think Obama is bad? At least he's enthusiatic, our one really doesn't care about life. Which is why we've got a crap mental health system and the ONLY suicide support hotline supports SOUTH ENGLAND and nowhere else. And even if you do get through it's unlikely you'll speak with a human and even then you get put on hold indifiently. I'm not sure if everyone in the country is killing themselves or that the "volunteers"just can't be bothered either.
@Tortoise - I don't know if you've heard of Samaritans. They are a UK organisationand you can contact them on 08457 90 90 90. You canvisit their website here. Additionally, you can find your local Samaritans branch by typing in your postal code here. Phoning a local branch can be cheaper (or free), which might be better for you than the 08457 number. If you don't feel comfortable calling, you can text them on this number:07725 909090
I'm not sure of your age, but another resource you may find useful is Papyrus-UKthat supports peopleunder 35 who are struggling with suicidal feelings. Their number is0800 068 41 41 and you can also text them on07786 209697.
There is of course a limit to the help these services can offer. They tend to be better for one-off, crisis situations. If you need more long-term, ongoing support it might be helpful for you to visit your GP.
If for any reason you do not wish to visit your GP, you might also like to check Turn2Me.org. This site offers free or low-cost counselling for those in the UK & Ireland.
https://www.imalive.org/ is another service. I know you have been coming here awhile. We hope you stay here Tortoise:)
I've heard of Samaritins but I can never reach them and they don't support my area.
I wouldn't be able to phone the other one because I'm too old and I doubt they would support my area either.
I visited my GP and he tried refering me to a specialist because he's busy with people with relationship problems, period pains, cat scratched, nandos chicken just doesn't taste like it used to, lack of rapist sex drive, nostril cancer (I watch the news everyday and studied medicine for a long tine and that is not a form of cancer, it's called a nose bleed) and lots more problems I won't go into. So he can't help and I won't see that specialist for around 40 years.
I'll try that one but I can't talk to them right now. I'll try later. Thanks for them.
