Who should I see?
About two years ago I started feeling really weird. It started with not being able to focus when reading or studying, but escalated to other symptoms. I currently feel lightheaded, I feel like I'm floating when walking, have a hard time focusing, feel disoriented and confused at times. I also feel pressure in my head sometimes (like wearing a tight headband). I feel disconnected, like I'm living someone else's life. I went to a psychologist, but really didn't help much. So, I asked a Listener who should I go see and he suggested I asked here. Should I go to a general doctor, neurologist, psychiatrist?
Thank you for your help :)
Hi there! Do your symptoms lead to panic attacks? To the point that you can't sleep at night? If you feel as though it's an emergency I would see your primary doctor about it first while waiting to see a psychiatrist! (Just because it may take up to a month to see some) if you feel as though it's more of a physical problem instead of mental issues I'd say neurologist. Let me know what you decide and if you get help!
Things vary depending on the region you are in, but I think in most areas GPs refer patients to specialists when something is outside their area of expertise. Sometimes they run tests to have a better idea as to the problem.
Here, even if I decided I wanted to go to a neurologist, I would need a referral first anyway, so my family doctor would be my starting place.
