Im a mother and wife and was diagnosed with severe depression . I dont have nothing against younger people, i just dont know if they would be able to relate with an older lady. So i was wondering if older people visit this site also?

Well, I'm an adult but I'm not a "young adult" per se (even if I look like one, haha), and many people have told me I'm an "old soul." I'd be happy to talk with you sometime. And if not, I could help you find a suitable Listener. Just know there is always someone here to listen and support you!

Agreed! :) Most people are quite surprised when I tell them how old I actually am! But anyway, message me anytime if you'd like to set up a time to chat, or if you'd like some help finding another Listener. :)

I am 58 y/o male and desperately looking for another individual(s) to ask questions. However I'm a victim of childhood molestation and my agenda is not uplifting or lite. I'm asking everywhere for any direction I could find an individual to answer some fundamental life human relation questions to.

I think the answer to your question is yes there are older folk here, albeit not very many, and in general, unable to relate to those that are on-line.

This should show my age :)

I intended for my post to go to Yori above. but somehow it ended up where it did. (I did the same thing earlier this morning elsewhere on the forum........ old dogs & new trix? )

I'm 61 so I guess that qualifies me as being "older." sad

Yes there are a selection of 'older people' on the site but from my personal experience here I would roughly estimate that 75% of people are under 30 (interestingly listeners tend to be younger than members).

Miracle, I think some of these kids are sociology or psych students somewhere working on class projects or a thesis or something. Most of the rest are tracking online predators.

?: Don't you have to be a member to be a listener?

(let's see where this reply winds up)

Great question :) yes and no it's certainly true that many listeners come via the 'member' side first but it's not a requirement.Listeners are encouraged to use member and guest profiles so that we don't offload our own personal issues during chats with members. However I probably shouldn't say this but in my view people who are 'older' tend to have a greater awareness of their own emotional state and or mental health issues and know when it might be best to stay just on the member side (so I would say on average members are slightly older).By contrast younger people tend to try us the listener side more or stay longer in my view for a few reasons.Socialisation with features like the listener chat room, escapism from their own issues (older people tend to see this as a non ideal coping mechanism) and the fact that like you mentioned many are students.

Yori is being left out, but I'm wondering now the difference between 'Listener' and 'Member'?

I was instructed to join and become a member when I first came to this site and was chatting directly with resourcefulDaisy, so I could have access to the forums like this and others. Wouldn't resourcefulDaisy, as well as others have to become members first? Isn't there some kind of trial or training session involved?

(side bar: my high school class of 74' is split approx 50% of those who own and use modern day computers as evidenced by the world famous FaceBook, and those who view the internet as a novelty. In my opinion, it appears those who took the typing class are more apt to have a computer and keyboard........ but that's just my observation.)
