looking for some help om how to use this site
hello, My name is drew. I am new to this site and new to trying to get help with some of the issues i have been facing. I am a 22 year old male. Been to therapists a couple times, tried a couple meds, safe to say nothing has worked. I hate talking to people in person or admitting i need help, hence why i am here. I have been dealing with depression since i was about 15 or so and i believe i have some symptoms of PTSD. I have been working on an ambulance since i was 17 and been a career firefighter for the past 2 years, both of which have been in the city i grew up in. I feel nothing anymore but hate, anger and self loathing. Sharing some of my stories i found helps, but i refuse to tell anyone i know personally. The woman i thought i was going to marry hates me now, i drink everyday i am not working, and i pretty much have no friends and no money. So on that positive note.. anyone have any suggestions on how i can talk to someone?
All you have to do is click on connect to a listener now and someone is there to chat with you abut anything youd like..it's a private conversation and you don't have to tell them anything you don't want to
tried that once. its like talking to a brick wall. they give no input. All that was said is "i understand." Are they all like that or are some actually people with advice and input? I would even take someone that has no clue what they are talking about as long as they shed some kind of opinion or insight on the matter. just looking for a conversation i guess instead of just talking at someone.
Sounds like you are really dealing with a lot, I hope getting some of it off your chest is helpful and I hope you will find support here.As Listeners, we do not give advice because we don't understand the whole situation, and we don't want to say anything that might end up being harmful or unhelpful. But you are always welcome to connect with other Members and Listeners in the Group Support rooms. The Share Your Story room is a good place to discuss what you're going through with othersin a conversational setting. Just click "Group Support" on the chat list on your Dashboard if it sounds like something that might help you.
Like others have said you can end a chat and start another one. There are also profiles so you can search for someone that might seem like someone you'd connect to. Though it might not seem like much help at first, getting what is on your mind out and knowing that you are not the only one that feels the way you do is the most helpful thing I have experienced. Feel free to message me if you'd like.
Hey Drew, I'm really sorry to hear you're struggling and that you feel that nothing you've tried has helped so far, I know that can be very frustrating, but I admire you for keeping going and coming here to reach out! I'm sorry that your first conversation here at 7 cups didn't go how you'd hoped it would have, there are definitely a lot of great listeners here and with so many that means it sometimes takes some 'shopping around' to find one you really connect with. I've come on as a member before to talk with a listener and had to go through a few before I found one who I felt comfortable with. I hope your time here will be helpful for you, and that you'll find a listener you like to talk with! You can also check out the self-help guides, the group support chat rooms, the other threads in the forum, or search hereto connect specifically with a listener who you think might be good for you. Good luck and feel free to message me anytime if you'd like to talk more!
Drew, from what I understand they can't actually give you advice, but they are there to listen and support you and brainstorm with you.And yes...there are some great listeners out there, I'd suggest trying again...sometimes it takes a couple different ones before you find one that you can connect well with. Don't give up...give it another shot.
You can browse the listeners and choose one that you'd like to connect with, if you see one that seems good to you.
