[What Do I Do?] I was chatting with someone and I had to get going/leave the conversation...
At times, there may be instances where a conversation will run for a longer time than expected, or be a lengthy conversation. Listeners and guests/members may be having lengthier types of conversations, based on the particular topics and issues that are being spoken about.
If this happens, one can inform the guest/member that he or she has 'x' amount of minutes left to communicate, in the conversation. You can use a phrase such as:
"Well, we have been chatting for awhile now. I would like to let you know that I have 10 minutes left in our chat."
What do you say when you are in a longer type of a conversation, and need to get going? Your responses are welcome.
An additional option, would be to tell the guest/member who you are speaking with in a chat, that you are able to follow up with them at a later date (you can come to a mutual agreement as to when it would be most convenient for a future chat to be held).
You can also ask the guest/member if they are interested in the long-term listener program (guests/members can connect with a listener on a longer-term basis, in order to receive even more effective support). More information about this, can be found in this forum subcommunity:

I prefer to take short initial chats of 30 minutes and then speak on a longer term basis. I have chronic pain and therefor long lengths of time can be challenging. My method has worked well so far. I just let people know i'm on for about 30 minutes but then after that point they can message me anytime and i'll reply ASAP. I'm now a long term listener with quite a few awesome members and love hearing how they are on good and bad days :). @TakeAStandAgainstBullying

That sounds like a good way to structure your chats surrounding time limits - to let guests/members know you have X amount of minutes to chat. Thanks for your reply
