[What Do I Do?] I was chatting with someone and the chat was overwhelming...

November 5th, 2017

There may be certain chats which are taken by a listener, on a one-to-one basis, which cause someone to become overwhelmed, or triggered, depending on the particular content and issues spoken about, in the chat conversation.

After taking difficult chats, a listener has a number of options.

One remedy is to ask for Peer Support assistance in the Listener Support Room, a group chat-room which contains peer supporters (listeners who have acquired the Peer Support badge by passing the peer support training), in order to speak to someone about the a chat, which one has just taken. This is one way to receive support, after having taken a difficult chat.

Another remedy is to engage in self-care activities, and to access this self-care section of the 7 Cups forums:

https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/ListenerSelfCare_95/

By accessing this section of the support forums, one can gain ideas as to how they will be able to best take care of themselves, and engage in self-care, which is necessary and vital, in order to be able to effectively assist others on the site, while ensuring a healthful, and a balanced state for oneself.

Love this post. I mostly engage in self care if the chat becomes too much
