Ethnicity and identity shame

I live in a very conservative Indian community, where most of our elders have very narrow minded thoughts , all my relatives think being pale and western looking is the gold standard

my sisters and cousins have faced so much racism and mesogeny from family and college and school, I’m so scared to go through all that , to this day they hide they’re accents

and for years I covered my wheat coloured skin to look pale and they all call me beautiful, I don’t want want to live the rest of my life hiding my real self anymore, I’m tired , is anyone out there like me ? It’s been so lonely

I'm so sorry you or anyone else is made to feel this way 🩷

You are perfectly beautiful as you are.

And no one else gets to decide your worth!

@convivialTangerine4247 Good morning! I know how you feel and I believe you are exceptionally brave to come out and share your thoughts. I have been judged throughout my life and it did have a negative impact on my well being at different stages of my life. However, life has taught me that each of us is unique in our own way and we should celebrate who we are. While you cannot stop society being judgemental, you can certainly control your own thoughts. Focus on your strengths and become better at them everyday. You will soon discover how special you are.

Be like a snake and shed the old skin of negativity, fear and uncertainty. Embrace change and be who you are. Your core goup of supporters will always be there and count me in that circle from here on. Take care and be happy!
