I need to know

Ever since I was in middle school, I've constantly obsessed about how I appear to other people. It all started when this girl came up to me after I had taken off my covid mask in school and told me "You're actually pretty." when I thought I looked better with the mask on. Ever since, I completely doubt my own self perception as the none popular opinion. I know I shouldn't need external validation, but I don't want to be one of those people who thinks they look good when they actually don't. I've been called pretty many times since then, but I doubt them because when I look in the mirror I feel so distraught with the way that I look. It's not that I think i'm ugly, I know i'm at least ok but I need to know where I am exactly I guess, I'm tired of having to guess and I need to know.

@greenSkies6032

It is hard to not question and want outside validation. I did for a long time.

until someone i respect told me they thought i was very pretty... i tried to forget my self doubts / my look in mirror and only see flaws mode ....

instead tried to see myself through this persons eyes ....... once i was able to feel it myself ... i can see it and not worry .... this is a part of self acceptance and love.
