Problem with Brother

Hi all,

I have a younger brother by about 10 years (he is around 13 y/o). He is currently being very rebellious , treats everyone in my family disrespectfully, refuses to help at all, and constantly makes a mess. Me and my family have tried talking to him respectfully, but he doesn't listen. Sometimes I even lose my cool with him and yell at him, but he just yells back. I haven't found any way for him to be respectful or at least mindful of others, and it's driving me crazy.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering.  I have brother issues too. It can be incredibly difficult to find the best choices on how to handle these issues.  I empathize with you.

Good luck, I know you'll do the right things.

I hope you find the patience to get through it.

Are there consequences to his behaviour? I grew up around spoilt siblings who got away with a lot, so they didn't seem to learn the lesson of respecting household members.

Maybe there is a reason he is acting out also?

@GoldenRetriever21 I was that brother when I was younger, I was going through something mentally, but rather than taking I would have angry outbursts, try taking your brother out, and don't talk about his outbursts, I'm sure he knows already, once he is more comfortable with you, he will share how hes feeling and what is bothering him

Children often find ways to get attention you sound like you found being good did it first children often find that. Your brother has a different approach. If you give him attention when he is calm and ignore him more when bad he will learn to be calm over time. The difficulty is your parents created thus dynamic and probably have deep seated reasons for it adults change slowly. If there are older members of family talk about it please.

My mum went into a childhood stare when emotional and my dad would not discipline women. My maternal gran shared my mums state so this pattern can be deep set. You need someone to talk to.
