Dealing with the urge to self harm ❤🩹
Hi everyone! It's me, Luminity✨.
This post is about managing your urge to self harm. This is coming from a person who's been through it, maybe not for a period as long as you, maybe it wasn't as hard as it is for you, but I'm not completely unaware of how it feels, and I understand. ❤🩹
I quit self harm months ago, almost a month into it. I know it's not as easy for everyone. But I'm scared to death of my parents and I found it easier to quit than to face the consequences if they found out about it for the third time (the first time they took away my phone, the second time they took me to a psychiatrist, and let's say I was physically hurt too but I don't mind).🚫
So, getting to the point. How do you deal with the urge to self harm? Even though it's been a long time, I still get the craving for that special feeling I used to get while doing it. Seeing the marks on myself. And the escape it used to provide during stressful times. Here's what I do/did to stop myself from doing it-
•Distance yourself physically- My parents took away all sharp objects, that wasn't exactly my choice, but it's one way to keep it in check.
•Find alternatives- Sometimes I turn the urge of seeing my own marks on me into creativity. I draw on myself, and it looks much much more beautiful than any cuts or scars ever could. Maybe look for something like that for yourself? Here's a drawing I made on my wrist, my initial. https://ibb.co/JwfLGyrY
•Seek help- Professional help is above all if you are seriously struggling. Nothing can replace that. Listeners here on 7 cups can help you out by empathising with you, maybe even give some helpful tips, but we can't replace clinical support. So, please reach out to a professional if you are struggling.
That's all for today. Hope everyone who reads this benefits from it. My PMs are always open if you need someone to talk to. I'll be more than happy to listen to you and provide the best help I can. Take care💖✨🫂
P.S.- not tagging anyone, because I am not sure who might or might not be comfortable with the topic of self harm.
