How do I tell them?

I'm 13 and sh since I was 11, and I want to tell my parents before it gets too bad. I just don't know how to. How do I tell my parents that they've been making me feel this bad? I don't want to hurt their feelings and knowing my mom, she'll just make it about herself. That's why I'm not sure if I want to tell her anyway. She’ll just turn it into a “why are you doing this to me” kind of thing. But she yells and fights so much with our family and I can't take the yelling and constant anger at me or my siblings anymore. If anyone’s been through something like this or has some tips on how to tell my parents, I’d be really grateful.

I do not think there is one right way whenever a family is involved ... i think we feel we know how they may react and sometimes we may be right or not.

but honestly most Moms or even dads want to help if you are struggling with things ....keeping it secret only escalates it.        What if you hurt yourself badly.. imagine the fear and pain they will feel not knowing about SH and your mental health that caused it.     Serious things just need to be brought up and talked about even if uncomfortable........ it helps us see each other and be there when the other person needs someone.   Being able to tackle this is a big growth opportunity as there are many adults who are unable to.

Thanks for your advice. I know I do need to tell them, but my mom gets mad at me whenever I'm not her perfect daughter with perfect grades and perfect health and everything. The last time I told her about something like this, she ignored me for the rest of the day and then never talked about it again. That's why I'm scared to tell her and it might not even help. But maybe it is a growth opportunity.

@sunnywaters6321 talking about sh with parents and opening up about it is very difficult. I can see where you're coming from with your worries. If your parents start to feel personally attacked, you could reassure them by saying that’s why you’re bringing it up - because you know they care about you.

It's a heavy conversation to have, but I'm happy that you've been thinking about having it.
