I think I like hurting myself. And I know I have to stop it but I don't know how to. Am I the only one???

@anonyVillage2075 I never really hurt myself only once, but I've spoken to many people here who struggle with the same issue as you. I really hope you get all the support you deserve and need here ❤ gives you a giant tiny hug ❤

SH can be addictive. The feeling is nice and it helps me relieve my emotional pain. I guess it's like a instant painkiller in a way.

@anonyVillage2075

I have always had eczema. When my skin is itchy, I really want to hurt my skin because it feels so good (addictive), but I also know that it will get worse and worse. Later I discovered that when I had nothing to do, I especially wanted to hurt my skin even if it wasn’t itchy.

Recently I try my best to find something to do or sleep. Singing is a good way for me. I think that to defeat addictive things, we must use addictive things to defeat them. I especially like kpop or hip pop. Even though I can’t sing well, I I like the feeling of walking with the rhythm of music

Now the feeling of self hurt is gradually reduced.

I want to stop because my friends ave noticed and its getting to a point where I just want a phyisical pain to block out a internal pain or something like that. it leaves scars and marks but they heal quickly. I cant stop replacing them with new ones. I'm just trying to break free from the cycle but it is insanely hard, especially in the summer

I am struggling with hiding mine too. It has become the first thing people notice about me and I hate having to make up lies on the spot

@anonyVillage2075 ur not the only one <3 also, ik its hard to remember this sometimes, but its not the sh itself u like, its how it makes u feel. Try and find smth that makes u feel better but isnt harmful towards u. U dont deserve this pain, u can do it ♥️

@anonyVillage2075 of course you're not the only one! Self harm or mutilation whether it's anything from being nose picking, benign neglect or self rape doesn't come from nowhere...and no one likes it at all! No no no. If someone does they're fooling themselves. It's just that it's a coping mechanism and is providing some relief from the pain or trauma or whatever and was there because nothing else was to prevent something worse from happening. If you're drowning for example and all you have is a *** piece of wood that barely keeps you afloat but just keeps you from drowning, that doesn't mean you like it or have to like it! You can appreciate it for what it is while also letting it go to grab on to something that's a little more buoyant, or release what's weighing you down! There's actually a Self Mutilators support group on In The Rooms (app and website) if you're wanting some more support beyond the chronically unsafe and anonymous connections here. Hope that makes sense. Sorry it wasn't very helpful and was so stupid. Thanks for your post, it helped me too... Okay bye for now, best of luck 👋🏼

@anonyVillage2075 Hi anony. I had the same problem. There was a time when i thought that I can't lose my self hurm streak, which sounds sick. Thing that helped me stop was cutting of my old "friends" when I left them I lost need of self hurming. I thing that unconsiously I did it to get their attention even that I was never showing by scars to them. Try to find thing that push you to hurting yourself and try to get rid of that thing.

Ypu are definitely not alone.  I’m sure that most people in the SH subcommunity here can relate to this.

I don’t really know how I stopped.  I just decided one day that I was willing to try.  I made it 1 day, and then Relapsed, and I tried again, always reminding myself to take it one day at a time.  I couldn’t fathom the idea of going the rest of my life without those behaviors.
