i was 9 but i had self harm thoughts way before that. I wish i didnt cut myself then, because if i hadn't, i might not be cutting today. I thought that no one would understand my problems and I had major trust issues against my family and friends. I feel super guilty for doubting the people that love and care so much about me. sad

it was during break, in high school. i don't remember why, but i started to bite my hands. i moved on to my wrists, arms, and shoulders later. i eventually stopped because mouths are gross. i still have tiny scars from it.

I'm Julia. I just started a few days ago. I didn't know what to expect but I did it anyways. Turns out I like it because of the way it made me feel. I know it isn't good but so far it's helped me feel something when all I usually feel is numb to everything. :'(

I started hurting myself before the age of ten but by 13 was regularly cutting myself. It was my only release/escape from PTSD and depression and I went on to cut myself for the better part of 32 years. The urges never go away, but it's possible now to stop romanticizing the physical pain and deal with the emotional in a healthier way.

@Palimpsest ; I'm so sorry you went through that for so long. But at least you know there's another way to deal with it. Keep it up! (:

I was around 15 when I started. I've only done it twice, but I still have the scars. I would sit in the bathroom and scratch gashes into my upper thigh. I knew it was wrong, but in my mind, I felt that I deserved it; like it was a punishment. I've never told my parents that something's wrong, so they never knew. I have to tell them eventually. I have to.

Well, I'm 14 years old currently and recently I have experimented with this. The day it started, I was stupid and unfortunately, I knew what I could be getting myself into.

I scratch myself with a pin. On occasion, I do it with scissors. The cuts aren't very deep though.

The feeling if this is somewhat different. You just get an adrenaline rush, although it's painful. I try to be positive and realize that I can get through something and I know that I'm more than a sharp piece of metal. I've realized that life is a gift. You're given life through birth, and once you lose it, you're never getting it back. Although it's a rollercoaster, you still have to find the good in it.

I apologize for turning this thread into an advice column, but I guess you say what you have to say, right?

I've been bullied and made fun of since elementary school, so I always was insecure and had a lower self-esteem than my peers. It only got worse in high school.

In my third year at the age of 15, we had a project where we were assigned in groups. We had to read a book together and film a scene from that book. My group members hated me and blamed me for doing things, not doing things, doing something wrong, etc.

My grandmother was doing very badly around that time. We feared she might develop Alzheimer and now talking, she suffered from depression too. My parents and siblings were going to visit here and I went with them, afraid that it could be the last time I would see her.

My group members had a Whatsapp group without me and had planned filming the scene that very day. I got angry messages why I wasn't there and that I must go there immediately. I explained I wasn't there because I was at my grandma's and how badly she was doing. They didn't understand. No, they didn't want to understand.

The next day at dchool was horrible. I felt humiliated, misunderstood, and I was angry at them. They mocked my grandmother, made harsh comments to me, and so on. I honestly felt like throwing up, so I called in sick the next day with a fever.

I was home alone, because everyone else had school or work to attend to. I felt guilty for being ill, I felt dizzy and almost threw up once. So I took a blade from the kitchen drawer and cut.

I've been cutting on and off ever since.

I was eleven at the time, and I remember my dad used to hit me when I did something wrong, so I start punishing myself because of the things that I thought I was doing wrong.

Last year, I think. I was depressed and people used it a lot as an outlet. I did exactly what I didn't want to do and followed the crowd. Took a pair of scissors and took a slice right above my heart. Stopped after like 3 times.
