I started a couple weeks ago. Going through so much right now. And it happened. It's like those dark thoughts took over and I had no control. Home life isn't the greatest for me. It's just too much. And my parents don't seem to understand. I can't take it.

The first time I attempted to experiment with self harm would of been when I was 8 or 9 years old. I was growing up in a household with a psychotic mother whom used to assault me in every way possible, treating me much much worse than she treated my younger sister. I don't know why or how it started, but around that stage in life, I started pulling at my own hair, often yanking it strand by strand, or several strands at a time, every time I was upset or frustrates, which was most of the time, having faced abuse at the hands of my mother so often. It led to a somewhat mild form of trichotilomania, which is the medical term for the obsessive compulsive behaviour. I am now 32 years of age, and still do it, sometimes more often than not. Unbelievably, my sister also does it as a result of the abuse she endured, but hers is also a lot more milder than my form of it. And when I was 15 or 16, was the first time I tried to overdose on painkillers. I have done that so many times now that my body is mostly immune to it and all I end up doing from it is sleep the effects off. The most recent time I attempted to do that was last week when I took 10 strong painkillers in one go and washed it down with distilled spirits (straight vodka).

I had been going through a rough time in seventh grade, because a friend of mine died. My other "friend" said she had something to help me cope with the loss. She gave me a razor the next day and the rest is history.

Funny enough i did it first because my current girlfriend did, and she just did it for attention from everybody and stopped no problem while i couldn'tquit

I've been cutting since I was 12 going on 13. I remember I was getting bullied at school and got so angry I grabbed my arm and sqeezed it as hard as I could. It felt so good getting all that pain and anger out for the first time. Months passing by I learned more about it online and stuff and realized I can cut with a razor or glass! It was so much easier for me. I committed to one arm so my mom wouldn't see. That didn't last long after running out of room. It grew terrible and out of co trol. Now here I am, age 17 going on 18, trying to figure out whether to take my life of not. It's pretty scary stuff.

I think the first time I cut was in the 5th grade, I'd just learned about it and I was severly depressed from then until today. The most dangerous time I had ever cut myselfwas sophomore year, when I had 56 cuts on my legs, I had completely harmed myself to the point where parts of my legs I cant feel anymore. Self-harm is a very scary thing, and I still cut sometimes, but it's very minor now, like cat scratches on my hands sometimes when I get very nervous or anxious.

When I was really young, starting when I was about 4 or 5, I used to hit my fists against my thighs until they bruised. When I was 12, I got into a fight with my best friend/first love. I went home and completely dismantled a razor and cut for the first time. I did it a few times whenever my motherwould get angry with me, which she did a lot of (and still does). I stopped for a few years and started up again last week.

I'm 1 week and 1 day clean now.: ) I began cutting becuse of depression, anxiety, bullying, family problems...at the age of 12. My classmate found out and he told everyone cuz he tough it was funny. I lost everything that day and after 4 days of terror I attempt suicide. It is summer now and I wear short sleeves people talk behind my back, teacher called me crazy(and unable to communicate) and all of that pressure is killing me. I realy want to end it all.

I first started cutting when I was In the 6th grade (12 years old)with my dads Razors, on my legs.I have to always wear stockings/tights because I don't want anyone to see the scars and call me an attention seeker.I started selfharming because I was feeling emotionally overwhelmed. My Parents verbally abuse me, no one cares about me and I feel so alone. My so called friends have hurt me alot too. I have been driven to the point where I want to take my life. I find that when I cut that I have some sort of control in my life and it makes me feel better. I'm 16 now and I still do it

I'm sorry to hear about your situation @agreeableOcean1577. I don't have experience at self-harm myself but I imagine even through the control you feel, there is pain as well. I hope you can find support on this site like I did. Take care.
